So after a while of thinking and a little work, my brother and I have came up with another option for the brake upgrade. I could have easily used GVR4 hubs, but I opted to go this route instead of throwing off the camber and such.

First we pressed apart the stock hub assembly, and unbolted the captive rotor. Then he used a lathe to turn down the hub enough for a GVR4 rotor to slide over from the front. This is the assembly on the car. (I installed new DSM lug studs, they looked a couple threads longer than the stockers).

Slide the GVR4 rotor over the hub, and then you can install the twin piston caliper. Using a 5.5 mm spacer between the caliper and hub assembly, will set the caliper where it needs to be. I'm having the spacers made, but for now 2 washers I picked up measure in at 5mm (should suffice for mock up). I'm also going to shop around for 5 mm longer bolts.

I'm sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures, but I figured this might interest some of you... Questions? Thoughts?

That seems pretty cool. It would help eliminate the camber and bump steer issues. Only hard part is the lathe on the hub. But if you go at it with a grinder it will take forever and be out of balance.

Good work!

I've been wanting to do that to my hubs but I wasn't sure if I could use the twin-piston calipers or not. For some reason I was under the impression that they still wouldn't fit right, and that Expo or GVR4 knuckles were needed. Sweetness :D

This looks like a viable option. I have the whole knuckle and everything. I have it, the hubs, and both calipers for anyone who might be looking! Thanks for the info! If they don't sell I know what I'm doing!

Any idea if a gvr4 or expo hub would just press into the colt wheel bearings? Then maybe machining and spacers wouldn't necessary?

They don't, the csm wheel bearings and hubs are completely different.

and 1/4" plate works for spacers too, might be easier to work with...

I ended up going with 5.75 mm spacer, which is right at 1/4 inch. I ordered 5 mm longer bolts from Fastenal (grade 10.9) so I'd feel safe about the set up. It's all installed now with SS brake lines from a fwd DSM. The were a bit shorter than stocks, but don't bind, even lock to lock. I'm waiting on my rear drilled rotors to get in before I try the back lines. :D

Yes, 15's seems to be the smallest you can run.

Stock turbo 266mm brake rotors and their calipers just, and I mean just, clear the stock 14" rims.
