Here are some pictures of what I did for Memorial Day. It's something I had been mulling around in my head for awhile. I really thought it might be a mistake, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought, "You only live once right?"

I recently made an intake pipe, and upper IC pipe, and it made my car about a half second faster and all, but it was kinda, Eh... Whoopde doo right?

Tried this, it sucked. In fact if it sucked any more, it could only be better.

Tried this, Meh...

There has to be some better use for that rusty spot!

I don't know if this is possible, but it seems like my intake air temps are colder than it is outside now. DSMlink showed as low as 59F at one point! :supz:

Looks pretty cool. I don't doubt the intake temp difference personally. I do wonder about vibration to the MAF unit though and the twisting motion of the motor. Hope it doesn't break off or come apart from the hose. Cool idea tho. Pun intended.

Yeah you're right. I've been a little worried about the force against the MAF and turbo inlet too. I'm going to order those silicone couplers with the bulge in the middle, to replace both of the ones on there. The MAF and intake pipe are about an inch apart inside the coupler so the more flexible couplers should help a lot.

In other news, I attached one of those long K&N filters to the end of my 1g K&N filer today. (the two from the previous picture) Combined, the two filters reach to the bottom of the bumper cover. I shouldn't have any kind of restriction caused by my filter media. There's probably enough filter media to make a car cover if you stretch it all out LOL.

Looks good! I always enjoy watching people do things differently on their cars as it inspires me. Completely off topic but I would sand and paint the strut tops and the windshield wiper motor. That would add the finishing touches to the engine compartment in my opinion.

Yes, or probably even a new strut mount, on the right side. Everyone tells me to fix that rusty wiper motor too. I was looking over the car recently, and I'm seriously thinking about painting the whole car soon. The roof is total garbage, and I'm starting to get some little rust spots on the bottom of the chassis here and there. New York State sucks for that. If I'm going to complete an AWD conversion on this car, I'm not going to sit and watch it rust.

It's tough to decide if I shouldn't just replace the shell again, but I'm not sure there's that many of them left. Finding a good one near me, would be like searching for hens teeth on the moon.

Totally off topic, I was on my way home from criuse night at the local 1/8 mile tonight, and my MPFI relay kept clicking off on me and killing my engine. I was logging with link, and the log just ended as if the ECU power had been shut off. First time it just stalled,(before I got to the thruway) and restarted without issue. Then it lost power briefly while criusing in gear twice, then just died. I was pissed because I was on the thruway, and it was dark out, and to top it off, raining.

I think there's three possibilities:
1) Either my ECU is craping out (bad caps or something)
2) Water was shorting out my MAF (Somehow I doubt this)
3) I should have removed my ECU from the car before I did all that welding.

Or maybe all three, I don't know.

I went and took a piss, then came back to the car and tried to start a log. It didn't find a connection. I tried a couple more times, and it started to log. I knew then that it would start, so I fired it up and drove home with no problems.

I should have sold it to that guy at the track tonight. He said he was driving his Audi, saw me do a pull on the thruway before, and he was just speechless. He wanted to buy my car real bad. I told him there's no way, I'm not done building it yet.

Now I have to deal with intermittent death syndrome. SERENITY NOW!

Back on topic...

I think that's a decent idea putting the filter in the way you did, but you should grind down those welds. It looks kinda cheap and takes away from the fact that you did something functional. And yes, you should get some kind of flex in that thing since the motor itself will move and cause issues in time.

Pull the ECU, exact same symptoms of what happened to my board with bad caps.

I think my DSMlink chip wasn't seated properly on the ECU. I looked at it, and discovered the lever type socket that's on there, doesn't quite fit the chip very well. I sandwiched another socket between that, and the link chip, and think that may have solved it. The ECU was repaired and got new caps shortly before I bought it.

Anyways, I just repaired and installed my spare ECU, and drove the car in a rainstorm last night, and haven't had any issues with that one either.
