so like i said in another post i changed my V3 tune to an Evo 3 timing and fuel map. after which i got 26 MPG, i didnt touch anything except some minor timing adjustments for knock and leaning out my fuel table to 11.1:1 under boost. the following tank i got 15 MPG and have gotten that since. i fill up and 80-100 miles later am on empty... im doing mostly city driving with little highway. i mostly drive sanely with only short outburst of dominance to other civics and such. is this normal or am i missing something???????????
---Some of the engine Mods: 2G maf K&N filter, E3 16G, 560cc evo inj, V3 Lite, E3 headers and O2, smog legal 2.5" exhaust, Big SMIC etc, etc. i have a rather large boost leak at the throttle body but this i dont think will affect gas mileage this bad since its been there when i was averaging 20-23 mpg. ooooh and i was able to get my AEM WB to log in V3 and im at 14.3:1 - 14.9:1 AFR during cruising. im lost guys give me a clue???

****another thing for those DSMlink guys, i am still running the stock O2 sensor in the O2 housing and have the Wide Band O2 sensor mounted on the downpipe about 8-12 inches down stream

I've never played with V3 or anything but try to check the dwell on your injectors. If one is locking up it will decrease your gas milage but you should be seeing the A/F dropping below 10.0:1 if an injector is fouling. Just an idea, I'm drunk and want attention right now.

AEM wb doesn't provide linear output so if you using it for fuel trims in the dsm ecu it wont be accurate. Basically only believe what this wb tells you on the gauge.

Are you talking about ECMlink logging the guage differently from what its actually reading??? i installed the buffer ECMlink sells and i got it to log very close to the guage. ill do a pull and watch the guage and then look at my log and it nearly spot on... under boost it holds an almost steady 11.2:1 fluctuating only slightly between 11.0:1 and 11.3:1 depending on throttle position...

If you aren't going WOT a ton then thats not the culprit, you're way too rich in closed loop. I'm not exactly sure what's wrong but my awd Talon would still pull 19-22mpg city at 450hp level so 15 is not good. Watch the WB while under normal accel from a stoplight or so up to 35-45mph. See how rich it goes at throttle tip in. Use the Link function where you can see which load cell you're in in the timing and fuel maps while driving. That might show you something. That's how I fine tune my timing at cruise so I get max advance I can w/o knock.

You should post a log. I tried an "EVO" map that I found on the ECMlink wiki, and after a while I discovered that it was making me run pig rich anytime I'm WOT below 4000 RPM.

It turned out it was causing richness at the track as well, even though my RPM never drops below 5000. After each shift I was seeing 10:1 (or possibly richer can't tell) AFRs between 5000-5500. That all seemed to improve when I started pulling fuel between 3000-5000.

Ps. If you are leaking at the TB shaft seals, keep in mind it may leak waaaay more when you have the throttle open X amout of percent.

the direct access tables are commanding the correct afrs, but your are still going rich, you have a leak, even a smallish one will cause problems.

are your cruise logs, you can raise timing higher. much higher, you are cruising at 28dg, whereas on a 1g map it is upwards of 35-40dg from the factory in the cruise range.

also, whenever thedamn thing is knocking like that, get your damn foot off the throttle unless you like replacing head gaskets and rod bearings (at the least)

is a 100dg outside, your iats are still going to be 100dg. even hotter at the throttlebody due to intercooler nature.
you can make a water sprayer up that will spray your smic and help cool things down under boost (well below ambient, upwards of 30% efficiency can be added.)

1. I do have a leak at The throttle body.
2. I think I'm gonna log the 2G maps and start over from there.
3. Whenever it does knock I let off. If you look close after it knocks to like 15 degrees I let off immediately since it'll knock like that almost instantly.
4. The temp outside is 65-70. Im in the understanding that if outside is 100 then my IATs won't be below ambient.
5. Thanks for the water sprayer idea I'll look into that. I hadn't thought about it

when i built taht scoop orner light, and a crude airbox, my iats at the maf went from well over 100 to within a few degrees of ambient.

I'm gonna put together a crude heat shield tomorrow and use that pipe idea to ram air to the intake. I'm expecting the heat shield Alone to help ridiculously since it will block the hot radiator air.
