Averaging 26 MPG in a 4g61t with a 14b/450's/smic/'90ecu. And that's mixed highway/city with a heavy foot. I can't see that highway would lead to much better MPH since the car runs @ about 3200 rpm @ 69 MPH. Have always wondered what the best MPG I could get out of a tank with all around driving, but my self control has never lasted a tank full yet. ;)

I actually just checked mpg's on my car on my commute to and from work. I currently drive 84 miles round trip with a mix of of about half and half of hwy and city driving. I drove straight up grandma status to net the best I could possibly get with a nice mix of driving conditions. My car has a 2.3 stroker, bc 280 cams, hx40, km210 trans, and my target a/f ratio for idle and cruise is 15.3:1. I ended up netting 29.24003 mpg. I filled up before work and reset my trip to 0 miles, and then filled up when I got back in town. I then took the miles traveled divided by the amount of fuel I purchased (amount used on trip).

So I put a new tune on my car and the car did 26 MPG!!! then the next tank I was at 15 mpg and now I'm at 84 miles since I filled it up and I have to get gas because I'm empty. Thank god my WBo2 is coming today so I can hopefully find out what the hell is wrong

Last tank was 35.7mpg. 349.9mi on 9.8gal. Been playing with the timing a bit to fine tune it. I just got an AEM wideband so once I get it installed I'll dial the fuel in. I still have to lower the car and do aero work.

I filled my tank last weekend and went for a 350 mile round trip in the country. I managed to get about 25mpg with it. I think it does better on 55 mph country roads than at 70 on the interstate. It's a fully loaded AWD 2900lb car that does high 11s, so I can't complain.

I wasn't paying attention the last time I made a long trip, but I'm soon to be going another long-distance (1,100 miles) of mostly highway miles in the next few weeks. I'll come back to edit this post with my findings. Current setup is 61t, 89' mirage ecu, 11b turbo, 450cc, 1g maf, sidemount ic, 90' FWD trans, full weight plus power locks, windows, and cruise. I'll be carrying around 80 lbs. of tools, and also 100 lbs. or more of personal affects.
I noticed on the highway that this car pulls lots of vacuum cruising over 80+ mph. I know that means more revs (more gas) involved, but maybe the vacuum factor may help? I think around 70 mph it sits about 10 hg/in2.
No picture to display said vacuum, sorry.

Often the higher vacuum relates to a healthier engine. Was it cold out or something borked?

First of all, got the new motor in 08' and have since put 20k on it....so lets say less than 100k in it's lifetime, it should be relatively healthy still. I went from ID to ND, elevations varied from 2,100 to 7,100 feet or more, and that was colder in the month of March if that makes a difference. But to explain what I was saying about the varience in vacuum, the car drives itself above 80-85mph but I have to use a little pedal around 70mph.....the vacuum is obviously very high with the higher speed and lower going the speed limit (~70). Confident the vacuum is consistent to this even during summer months. I've been told the motor is eating less gas the farther away from atmosphere it gets.

More vacuum is less load yes, but you also have to look at injector open time since the higher rpm means its squirting fuel more times per minute. There is a happy medium somewhere between real low rpm, higher load vs high rpm and low load.

Also, I think the temp reference might have been because your coolant temp gauge shows cold.

What is your rpm at 60mph with that DSM Fwd tranny? They have tall ratios.

^^^ Yeah...the tab on my temp sensor broke off. I have no idea what my idc is running at, honestly, but I understand what you said about loads. As for the question about rpm/speed, I'm not sure right now...definitely taller gears though. I read everyones' posted mileage results....crazy how much they fluxuate.

Gotta pull this one back as I've just set a personal mileage record. 40.066. Car is a 91 Colt GL with a 4g63t, 680s, Evo 16g at wastegate pressure, 2gmas, pretty normal set up.

Lately I've been getting several tankfuls in the upper 30s, lots of 35 plusses and the occasional 37+&38+ and one 39.888.

The 40mpg was on a trip coming back from a couple of races in Montana, through the mountains between Saratoga WY and Estes CO and some driving around the mountains here. I did take it pretty easy on that stretch, just enjoying the drive and the scenery. I've never seen that much water in the streams here! Even when I'm driving normally, which means getting on the turbo a bunch to get around traffic in these short mountain passing zones and spending almost no time in 5th, I seldom get below 32.5.

The trans was rebuilt at Jacks with an evo 5th gear. It turns 2650 at 75mph and about 3000 cruising at 85. I plan to kick up the boost after I get a bigger intercooler and an AFC but I really hate to spoil a good thing!

I'm definitely jealous cause 40mpg is my goal with my 1.6L and you have the power of a 2.0L! I just did a roadtrip myself and at 75mph over many mountain passes. I just got 35.4mpg. My rpm is much higher though with the stock km210 tranny. I even have taller tires to lower the ratio but I'm still about 3600+ at 75mph.

And a new record! Driving back from Dillon through Kremmling and over Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park then doing some running around the local area, down to Longmont and Boulder running errands.

42.6 MPG!!!!

I was actually pretty well behaved in that 205 miles and 4.81 gallons, not even trying to pass all the long lines of tourist traffic, but I did pass some of them so it got kicked a bit though I don't think I ever got over 90.

Remember, you're only hearing about the really good mileage, not the average which seems to be around 35  . I do have one 32 mpg since my last post in this thread, though, and to tell the truth, i don't see myself driving any differently between the 32s and the 36s.

I was pretty sure the other +40 was a fluke, maybe a bad reading on the gas pump or something, and that that would never happen again, but I'll take it. :D
