HAHAHA my sedan with a 4g61 is like this too. Mid 20's combined driving if I am nice. But terrible mileage when beating on it.

I surprized to see such low numbers from so many. Then again this is a performance car club. 8) With my 4g61, s16g, stock 1g smic, 2L TB and intake, 450cc inj, I was getting 32-34mpg with 75% highway use. Now I have a fresh engine with 10:1 pistons (in the name of trying for better mileage) and the same setup plus V3 Lite now. My mpg is worse at at 30-32mpg. It actually gets better mileage at 75mph than 60mph. I think mostly because the higher compression makes it very timing sensetive. I have to run basically 10deg less than stock at all load levels. So much for my bright idea to get better mileage.

I should add that I got a best of 38mpg once driving 55mph. I was really hoping to get 40mpg on the new setup so being worse than stock was a big disappointment. I haven't done any aero work yet and it sits like a 4x4 height wise, plus I have tall tires on it too.

My ultimate goal is 40mpg and 300hp. I'm going to wind up dumping tons of money into this turd in the name of seeking my goal. I hope its worth it.

What method are you using to calculate the MPG?

I always divide the amount of gas filled up by the amount of miles driven. I don't rely on any kind of electronic gas mileage calculators.

That is what I do. Some people calculate MPG using their "claimed" gasoline tank capacity found in their owner's manual. Usually this number is inaccurate. Also some cars have assymetrical gas tanks that get 160 miles on the first half tank then get a whopping 90 miles on the second half.

I was curious if Shawn was calculating MPG assuming a 12 gallon tank or going off the first half-tank of gas.

Also! If the gas tank is "topped-off" then the calculation will be skewed if you calculate off of the fuel gauge only.

Best way to accurately calculate MPG is to keep a log off how much gasoline you put in and how many miles the car has driven.

I keep a log in every vehicle I own. I record every tank, oil change, mod done etc. And yes, I use amount of fuel and mileage.

Then I can't question your numbers! My sedan may be able to eek out close to 30MPG if I would give the go pedal a break. Probably not gonna happen....

You are correct hun! Probably NEVER gonna happen. Surprised you haven't had a speeding ticket in a long time. If ever...

i actually took some good advice with my V3 lite tune this weekend and uploaded the evo 1-3 tune instead of the EVO8 MOD tune and my gas mileage was 26 MPG :o I was very suprised to say the least but i can deffinatly feel the difference from the less aggressive timing and fuel maps. oh well im at 4.49 for 91 and love every MPG at this point

Best I ever got was 33mpg on the way to the shootout a few years ago, bone stock 2.0 (balance shaft delete), 264/272 cams, Evo 3 16g, extrude intake manifold, 650cc injectors and km210. I did however play with Red Sleeper a couple times on that tank, so I probably could have gotten a little better...

So when does the turbo diesel go in?
I actually looked into doing that with my 1g fwd Talon. My original plan was to make a high economy car out of the Talon because it has a low drag cd. It was going to take more work than I wanted to do so I switched plans to the Colt and its little 1.6L instead.
