But.. If it cost you $70 to get it done, I would avoid his option! Shop around, many machine shops will do it for $35-40.

Also, stock FW should NOT be used on anything running sub-12 second ET. The risk is just too great!!! My friend's GVR4 granted the stock FW running low 12's!!!

There is a video of blowing up, spinning and hitting the wall on 3 Speed's web site. BTW, I was supposed to take drive that Galant on that pass...

I think finding a used aluminum flywheel is the better option. But again, my opinion on the driveability of a super light flywheel differs from you d00ds.

Wow thanks for the tips. It hasnt made my decision any easier though haha. I actually had no idea the stock flywheel was WEAKER than the lighter aftermarket ones. I always assumed it was the other way around. I have read from the act, fidanza sites their flys are stronger than stock but i assumed it was b.s. I always assumed exploding flywheels is a rpm thing, not a power level thing. My engine will never see more than stock rpm so i would have thought the (i thought weaker fidanza) would still be okay without a scattershield. I always assumed the scattershield rule was because of the odd race car with 5 lb flywheels and 12000 rpm.

Its just so hard to believe cast iron could be weaker than aluminum in any application. Either way its not really a huge concern, itll never see more than 400 hp to the flywheel. I think it should be a good rule of thumb for dsmers if they are to run an upgraded clutch to handle more power than a stronger flywheel is an order.

now the build is on hiatus for a little while as i order up some parts.
I decided to use 92 gears as i opened up one of my mystery trannies and it was pristine condition 92 awd box. These are supposedly the strongest gears, also compatible with evo 3 stuff. These also have the shittiest 3/4 shift fork so i have to order evo shift forks, other than that i could have the box back together.

What i did was use the vans bellhousing section and thats it. I installed the 3 lower bearing races from the 92 box to match the 92 stuff, used everything else from the 92 box. checked all the preloads and they are good.

I also need a clutch, i have a new stock clutch, but no sense putting that in it would never last long even with a 14b.

And might as well do the t belt and all seals etc etc. Im going to leave the balance shafts in cause i dont want to piss around with high oil pressure. I want good street manners too so balance shafts in and stock flywheel too.

Keeping the air conditioning p.s, etc remote start, all that.
New, the van was cheaper than it other Mitsu counterparts; ie the sports cars, so parts would generally get hacked on by the accountants and engineers till they are on the borderline of breakage at elevated power levels. hehe Less metal = less expensive.

Threw some 17s on to see what they look like, they look stupid but should look good with taller rubberImage

Exhaust is all done 2.5 from turbo back mandrel cherrybomb resonator in the middle kind of a fun job ok not really

Started on the intercooler. This is going to be the biggest job of all, and so many ways to run the piping. I really really dont want any piping where you can see it. The intercooler is a very good fit too. It could be a little longer or shorter, but 3 inch thickness is perfect, no it is not a 10 mph bumper anymoreImage

My exhaust on my sedan is made the same way except I used a 3" glasspack and 3" pipe to the bumper with the 2.5" downpipe. Sounds awesome, doesn't drone and is quiet enough to stay out of trouble.

Rear end is stock for now. It is different housing than dsm but i bet the dsm lsd will fit in the housing. It looks about as strong as a 3 bolt dsm diff.

Im going to steal parts from my race colt for my van. Its decided. All the evo spec gears, centerforce, fidanza. I dont know if i want to use my 20g setup or not, i would be more than happy with a 16g. Im having a hard time with decision making at this point. I am also undecided about the future of the hatch. I will likely just drop in a stock 90 tsi drivetrain and retire the car to winter beater status as i have studded winter tires for it. Then my van can be my year round weekend warrior.

LMAO I snatched mass parts from my Galant to use on my Scummit. Nothing gnarly like a 20g or EVO gears though....

Very nicely done! My first FMIC on my Laser RS was piped in almost the exact same manner. Your piping looks far better than what I used.
