I'm up around 186k miles on what I can only assume is the original 4G61 engine (apart from a replaced head due to a snapped timing belt). how long do these engines usually last before they need torn down and rebuilt or replaced? I'm hoping you guys are getting high averages so I don't have to try to find $$. I'm currently driving about 46 miles/day 5 days a week. Thanks in advance!

Brandon

It just depends on how the engine is cared for. The only items that are internal to the engine that can cause failure due to wear are the rings, bearings and oil pump. If you replace the timing belt and water pump at the suggested intervals then they should not cause failure.

If you perform oil changes regularly and are not beating the snot out of the car then the engine internals will live a long life.

Excellent! That makes me feel better. I'm thinking about a 61t or 63t swap at some point...just don't know when I will have the time to start. The longer it takes the engine to fizzle out, the better lol. Thanks so much!

They can be very reliable, you just have to take care of them, and if it blows up, and you want more power, Go 4g63!

Mine has 142k, runs amazing. Smogs like it's not connected to the machine and doesn't seem to burn any oil.
