I have just bought a 1990 jdm lancer gsr rs 5 door that has dual mode suspension. I have never come across this before and was curious if it was an optional extra and how exactly does it work. Are suspension parts harder to find for these models ? thanks

The only cars that came in the US with the electronic suspension that I know of were the Galant GSX's, and it's an extremely rare option. Parts for them are basically impossible to get, and if you get stuck with a car that has the electronic suspension and it isn't working, you're probably better off converting it to conventional suspension and being done with it. I'm not sure how they work, but in most cases it can either soften or stiffen the suspension by changing the valving in the shocks electronically.

Also 3000gt's had a sport mode adjustable suspension, it tightens up when activated.

Go on a bumpy road, drive through, turn around, press button, and drive through, see if you can feel a difference, its pretty noticeable in the 3kgt vr4's

diamates had it too, they shared the same compressor and valves as the galants, but not struts/airspring.

Find the shocks for those cars is increasingly rare, and almost assuredly not available at the dealer networks, but as always some parts pop up here and there if you have the right contacts at Mitsubishi.
