I think they are factory vents from an evo 6 or 7 if I'm not mistaken. You should be able to google some pics of early evo's and find them but I'm sure they will be expensive if you can even find them for sale.

Any updates Chris? I think the temperature has gone down enough to start working on it again :supz:

I messed around a little today and I was going to update this thread anyway :P . I've been hitting the junkyards and working on parts for others so the colt hasn't been getting much attention.

I did make a small bracket to hold the tach interface on. I know I could have picked up a coil bracket for a 90 dsm but I had already blasted and painted this one. I removed the fuel rail and saw that there was just enough room for a small bracket so I took a small piece of aluminum, drilled and countersunk a hole and then drilled and tapped two smaller holes for the interface. Mounted it all up with some ss socket heads.

I was also browsing Rockauto's site and saw that they had direct fit 1g O2 sensors on sale for $30, figured I might as well replace that too while I'm at it. I also had to notch the lower 1g heat shield since I'm using a 2g O2 housing. I'm not too crazy about the blue tubing that came on it but maybe it will grow on me. I'll probably end up getting some blue NGK wires to match.

Image

Here is a pic of the Evo X muffler that I picked up at the shootout. This thing is huge compared to the stock colt muffler so getting it to fit will be a challenge. If nothing else I will use the tips on another smaller muffler.

Image

I really need to get motivated and drop the engine and tranny in. I can't see it taking more than a few hours.

Well my last few projects have been parted/sold because I tried to rush them and got frustrated. Then I learned to take a step back and pace myself, things get done when they get done, no pressure this way.

I got my DSM side mount installed today. What I thought would take about 20 minutes took over an hour :P . I started by removing the wheel to see where it needed to go. In order to make it fit like I wanted it to I had to cut the bottom pipe and make it point out instead of up as it was hitting the frame rail. A buddy of mine has a machine shop and I will get him to tig it back together for me.

Image

Once I got the lower pipe modded I marked and drilled a small 1/4" hole from the bottom. Then I used a 2 5/8" hole saw to cut the large hole from the top. Its a perfect circle but the metal isn't straight in that area so it makes it look wavy. I cleaned it up with a dremel and shot the exposed metal with some white paint that I had sitting around.

Image

Once the large hole was cut I could push the IC up into place and mark the other holes for the bolts. I think it looks good tucked up in there, now I just have to find a way to get some air to it until I find out which front bumper will go on.

I'm going to run a dsm intake pipe and air can and either put the battery in the hatch or use a smaller battery and locate it somewhere else in the engine bay.

That's the exact same place I had mine mounted. It gets decent air flow there and nobody really notices it unless they know what they are looking for. Instead of cutting and rewelding the pipe I just cut it at an angle and installed the rubber piping. I wish I had a welder and knew how to use it. My buddy just bought a decent mig welder but neither one of us know how to use it yet...

Loving the side mount setup! I would like to do this with my gt but I'm too lazy, lol.

Well I compared the size of the evo x muffler with the oem colt one and they are way too far off. I plan to lower this car and the evo x muffler is just too thick. My plan is to build my own custom muffler from scratch. I know new mufflers are pretty cheap but I have most of the material here already and I just like to say "I built that myself".

Here are a few pics of them stacked to show the differences.

Image

Image

So I got out my grinder and a few fresh cutting discs and opened the evo muffler up just to see how it was built. Its pretty cool really and you can tell they put some thought into this thing.

Image

The inside consist of a little maze for the exhaust to flow through. Attached to each outlet is a small resonator just on the inside with tiny 1/8" holes and I'm guessing fiberglass packing.

Image

Also there is a small spring loaded door separating one side from the other. Probably for back pressure I guess. Seems like a neat idea but I'm not sure if this would hurt or help as far as performance is concerned.

Image

Here are the materials for the new muffler. Some 3.5" SS thick wall tubing and a 1' x 36" sheet of 16 gauge SS.

Image

The plan is to cut off a 18" length of the pipe and then split it down the middle the long way. This will give me two "C's" for the outside edges of the muffler. The sheet will attach the two together and serve as the flat section forming a box. I will grab some small pieces from my brother to make the ends once I have the rest cut and tacked and know the basic shape. He had this stuff laying around as scrap but I made him take $10 for it.

Since I will be reusing the 90 degree ss bends from the evo muffler and the polished tips I will run by the local exhaust shop and buy a few feet of 2.5" pipe. Drill some holes in it and wrap it with steel wool or fiberglass. So I will have a 3" inlet on the side along with two 2.5" outlets. I may end up separating the evo muffler a little more and see if I can use any of the baffles or other internal parts.

Post up some ideas if you have any. I'm open to suggestions on this thing.

The more oval the muffler, the less its going to resonate, at least in my experience. I'd try to make it as large and oval shape as possible. :)

WOW! This is intense, im from NZ and have started gathering parts to build up a Cyborg, ie engine, turbo etc. I have yet to buy a rolling body, but seeing your build has inspired me to build mine clean and not rushed. Im looking foward to the end result!

nice, i just mounted a 3" intake and big K&N filter in that same location on my buddies "stock GT" build. We still have to make a cover for it as its exposed to rain/snow/mud still... but it sure keeps cool air coming into the turbo and lowered the IAT's.

keep goin at her!! you will get her done!

im in the middle of the summit awd 4g63t project now too... gotta keep going, try and finish something each day.
