Is the only difference between the csm axles and the dsm axles the wheel bearing seal size? Or are there others? I'm asking specifically about the axles that utilize the intermediate shaft.

the non turbo CSM axles use different lenght shafts and bearings. The turbo CSM has similarities to the DSM parts but are still different. There are possible ways around some of these part mismatches depending on what your trying to do and what parts you have at your disposal.

The dsm axles are of a different length. IIRC our one member who used a dsm axle had his differential explode into a few dozen pieces after awhile, may be a coincidence though.

I am using the DSM axles but I did have it re-grooved so it is shorter.

I guess what I'm really asking is if the dsm axles will work with the dsm fwd tranny and expo knuckles or if I have to use the csm axles and change the wheel bearing seal to fit. Has anyone found out exactly how much longer the dsm axles are?

I have the DSM axels and expo knuckles with the DSM FWD tranny. Pretty sure you just need the stock seals at that point (the expo and DSM seals should be the same IIRC)

But I have two sets of stock awd DSM/GVR4 front axles and would like to use them, you said your's are shortened. I'm just trying to gather parts so I can have as painless of a swap as possible. I've got a GVR4 engine, harness, ecu, seats, axles, brakes, and bunch of other shyza from a car I gutted a while ago, and ever since I've been dreaming of csm status.

If you really want painless, go to carquest and buy the right axles brand new out the warehouse.

Make sure you confirm the parts are right when you get them by sizing them with the tranny/spindle you intend to use! They have a bad habit of shipping the wrong size axles in my area.

The only part numbers that are available from Carquest in my area are through their worldpac supplier. They are brand new axles and a bit more money.

I've used dsm axles with dsm tranny in a csm. You just need the correct size wheel seal. They worked fine for me, I had plenty of track runs on them.

Mister, a dowel pin from the flywheel flew out and ran straight through to the differential casing. It had nothing to do with me running with a DSM axle...it was a rusted out dowel pin that met Murphey's Law. I successfully ran this axle on the KM210 and F5M33 transmissions for thousands and thousands of miles.

I had to run the DSM axle because I needed the extra inch it provided over the turbo CSM axle, and this was after the Hyundai Elantra LCA conversion. I would assume the DSM axle would be too long in someone else's situation though.

Sorry to thread jack, but are you saying that after the elantra LCA conversion, your turbo csm axles no longer worked? Just want to make sure as i just did this conversion but have yet to put the axles back. TIA
