Hello everyone i just got a 89 mirage with a "4g63t" as per the previous owner, but i checked the side of the head and the numbers engraved are g6 and under it it has 10 i dont have a clue what this means. Becuase the head that i had laying around wich i took off my galant vr4 has a 20 engraved on it. So this is where the question comes what head do i have?????? Can anyone help me??

I am not sure if there is a visible difference from the outside of the 1.6 and 2.0 blocks. The bolt on stuff will be different like the intake and exhaust ports will be smaller on the 1.6, smaller fuel injectors and throttle body on the 1.6 and I think they have a different water pipe under the exhaust manifold.

The head on my 4g63t engine does have 20 on it too, I cant remember what the 4g61t engine I took out had on it.

Take a picture of the water pipe that goes across the front of the block and post it.

Also the VIN should be stamped on the top of the block right where it meets the head on the transmission side. If it matches the VIN on the car of course its a 1.6, if its different a free check on Carfax will let you know what it came out of.

Measure from the oil pan flange to the head/block mating surface.

I'll admit I don't know how many cogs are on either belt, but I will send 5 Schmidt Heads to whoever guesses correctly, and 6boltcolt verifies lol. :yawinkle:

Front of the block near the power steering area, there is a flat surface with some form of displacement stamped there. IIRC.

It will say either 4G61 or 4G63, but it's usually so caked with grease and oil residue that you'll never see it.

The head could have been swapped at any time.

Correct. Most 1.6 heads actually say 1.8 on them.
