Shot a few coats of copper spray on a stock Mitsubishi head gasket.

Here is a shot with the valve cover just sitting on it. I'm getting close!

Honestly...

You should do a FULL pictorial of this engine build, and have one of the moderators make it into a sticky.

Great stuff man!

I bead blasted my 2g manifold today and trued up the flanges on the belt sander, then I taped it off and shot it with some cast manifold paint from Eastwood. This stuff actually holds up pretty good if done correctly.

Image

Installed it with new studs, nuts, washers and of course a new gasket.

Image

Then I tossed on my new manifold cover just to see how it looks. I need to grab the coolant line that bolts to the front of the engine before I can install the turbo, I think I left the original one in the talon when I sold it. :x

Chris man you're embarrasing me dude. Your engine looks so good and your swaps are always ever so clean. I might take my engine back out and clean up my engine bay and reshoot it. I was thinking of doing my first mild wire tuck while it's out. My engine needs to be cleaned and repainted. I need to put a new oil pan gasket on it while I'm at it along with a few other small things. How hard is a slight wire tuck? I have wires everywhere.

Just use sealant only on the pan, no gasket. They didn't come with a gasket from the factory. Be sure to clean all of the old silicone out with a wire brush though and you will see a little ditch where the new sealant goes. Put a nice skinny bead on and let it sit for 15 minutes, then slap it on and start the bolts but don't tighten them. Also note that two of the bolts are a little shorter and they go under the timing belt, if you put a long bolt there by mistake it will cut a groove in the belt. Let the sealant set over night and then tighten the bolts.

I've honestly never done a wire tuck on any of my cars. In my opinion the wiring harness doesn't hurt the look of the bay. I cleaned mine up and re-taped it but I'm going for the stock look under the hood.

I'm guessing you just extend the wires and hide the biggest part of the harness under the intake manifold. You can also put the fuse boxes behind the fenders to hide them but then its a PITA to replace fuses or trouble shoot if there are any problems.

So clean...

I have to show Bill this thread.

Anyways, can you take a shot of the bottom of your LCAs? I want to get a better look of that bolt on deal. Thanks.

Looks sooo good. I would love to get my hands on a set of those bolt in ball joints.

I got my 4g knuckles tore down, I replaced the wheel bearings and seals and pressed in some new studs.

Image

I also took the time to finally swap in my good dash pad since I have everything under the dash done. First I drilled out my old VIN plate and riveted in the one for my car.

Image

Image

Still have a few more odds and ends to install plus it needs a good cleaning.

Image

Here are some rotors that I got, they are 4x100 for a mini cooper s and they will work perfect with my custom front and rear disc swap.

Stock cam gears are on and the bolts are torqued to 72 ft. lbs. with loc-tite. T-belt is on, all marks are lined up and the auto tensioner pin height is within spec. I would have had it on sooner but I didn't have the thin metal plates that bolt to the head (behind the cam gears) and hold the upper part of the lower t-belt cover on. I grabbed a pair from the yard on Saturday.

Valve cover torqued down.

I found a low mileage FWD DSM turbo tranny from a local DSM'er along with the flywheel. Here is a pic as it sits now because I just got it last night. I need to clean it up and repaint it before it goes in :P .

Once the intake manifold and turbo is on I can drop the engine in. Hopefully that will be soon.

Did a little scrubbing on the tranny today. Broke out the pressure washer, the degreaser and some SOS pads and went to work. It started out like this:

and ended up like this:

I still need to swap over the csm shift levers and shoot it with some silver paint.

It's pretty tough to get a tranny spotless, but you can paint it at this point. Gotta love the bolt-on ball joints, Chris  I think they come in pretty handy myself.
