Thats exactly right, plus its cold here so theres only so much I can do. I figure I'll take my time on the small stuff until it warms up some.

just playing catch-up on CSM related items, "oh look, a build thread by 89Mirageman"

Great work Chris!!!! :supz:
As a fellow wiring perfection nazi, I have a full appreciation for all the effort that went into the harness.
That car is CLEAN!!!! Not even the slightest trace of corrosion under the battery tray, that is impressive.

I just love watching these doomsday machines go together.

Thanks Paul, things are moving pretty slow right now. That's the thing about NC, its either 25 degrees or 100 degrees  . Seems we don't get much of a spring or fall around here. Spring is right around the corner though so I will have a little while to button everything up before the heat sets in.

You need to update us on your car man, haven't seen you on here in forever. For the most part its the same old crowd around here with a new face (or name) every now and then. Then again some people have disappeared too, guess they wised up and bought a reliable car.

At least you don't live in the NE Chris. Today it's 35 in Pittsburgh and we're supposed to get between 4 and 8 inches over the weekend. Talk about a bummer.

It's still in the same corner at the shop with a cover on it as it was 6 months ago.

Got my elantra pedal mounted today. To those that are interested it did not bolt in 100% like a csm hydro pedal would have. Also for some reason the brake pedal assembly is set up slightly different where it makes contact with the brake light switch. So just swap in the elantra brake pedal right? Wrong! For some reason the elantra brake pedal is 1/2" shorter, don't ask me why but it is. Other than the length its pretty much identical. But I already had the parts here and I was determined to make them work so I did.

First I marked the two holes for the master cylinder, one large hole for the master cylinder adjustment rod to pass through and another small hole for the lower mounting bolt. I just broke off about 1" of a pencil to do this since its a pretty tight area. Do this before you remove the original pedal.

Here you can see the template for the holes.

Image

Holes marked and the pedal removed. You can also see that I found the center of the holes and center punched them for a drill guide.

Image

Since my engine is out and I had plenty of room I went under the hood and found the dimples that the punch left and knocked them the other way so that I could just drill from under the hood.

Image

I drilled the big hole with a 1 1/2" hole saw and the other mounting hole with a 23/64" drill bit.

Image

Holes drilled.

Image

Master cylinder bolted up.

Image

I still have to make a brace for the elantra clutch pedal since one of the mounting bolts under the dash was slightly off. Also I plan to just extend the elantra brake pedal so that it all bolts up like it should. I will update once that is done.

Got to work on the colt a little more today. Ended up extending the elantra brake pedal bar. I tried using the csm brake pedal with the elantra clutch pedal but they ended up being very close together. You can see in the pic that the two pedals are shaped slightly different.

Image

So I just cut the elantra pedal and added in a piece to make it the same length as the csm brake pedal assembly.

Image

I also grabbed an elantra booster/master cylinder assembly from the yard yesterday. You can see there is quite a bit of difference when compared to the na csm parts.

Image

I got the parts from a 1.8L elantra and noticed that it even had a 7/8" master cylinder. Not sure if the 1.6L cars come with those or not. The csm one is 13/16".

Next I'll install my wiring harness back in and the new brake booster. Then I can put my dash back in after that and finish up my engine.

Nice. Im using the Elantra booster as well. Does yours use a different harness than the factory setup for the low brake fluid light?

Yes, the connectors are different. I was just going to snip the Hyundai one off and solder the csm one on so that it still plugs in.

Chris, remember you sent me a hydraulic clutch pedal from some car...3g or 4g csm? For the life of me, I cannot remember what it came from, but I had a technical glitch and rigged up my switches to make it work. You'll run into this with pedals that have slight differences. Maybe I should take a picture.
