If it were in the 60s here I would be pressure washing my car in a t-shirt.

It was almost 70 today and clear so it was the perfect weather to break out the pressure washer. Armed with some purple power degreaser, some old rags and a scrub brush I went to it. About an hour later it was looking like new again, even the underside of the hood.

Now I need to pull the dash and get the wiring harness out and finish building my engine. Once that is done I can drop it back in and the rest should be easy. I'm not sure how well it will run but I can promise that it will be clean. :P

Your car is far cleaner than mine but then again you don't have to deal with salt and snow. I will try to make mine that clean.

I got lucky finding this car as it is 100% rust free, even the bottom of the car still has the factory undercoating. I felt it would be a shame if I didn't take my time on it and get it perfect, well as perfect as I can get it.

For those that haven't been here that long here is a link to my last swap. This is the car that started it all for me here.

I was shooting for one month but we all see that didn't happen :) . Honestly, I'm working full time now and we are remodeling our house as well. That seems to be taking all of my free time and money at the moment but the colt will run again eventually. I have 99% of the parts needed, just need to get in gear and work on it some.

I'm sure once it starts to warm up a little I will get the time to finish it. I've already told my wife once we get that room finished on the house I'm taking a break from it and working on my car some. I will be sure to update this thread if I make any progress at all.

I've been moving pretty slow on this lately. Been working on the dsm engine harness. I cut off the factory dash plugs and soldered on the csm plugs directly. I also extended the wires for the MPI relay so that it can mount by the radio like the factory one does. I'm also tracing out the wiring for the AC this time around. I probably have 3 or 4 hours in this thing so far but it will be worth it. I have replaced any cracked or broken plugs and replaced all the old plastic wiring loom and retaped all of it. It will look brand new once I ever finish.

I also picked up an elantra brake pedal and hydro clutch pedal from the yard on Saturday. I've decided to pick up a turbo dsm tranny so I won't be using a cable clutch 4g tranny after all. From what I can tell the elantra stuff should bolt right in just like the csm hydro pedal but the Hyundai stuff is a lot beefier. All of the metal is thicker and it just looks like its made better. I will be sure to update once I know it all fits.

WOW... Super clean engine bay!

How many miles are on your car. It looks like it has hardly been used!

I will be following your build as mine is close to what you have

Somewhere between 105-110k, can't remember exactly. I left a note on it at Wal-Mart of all places. Ended up belonging to an older lady who worked there. I kinda figured they did because I saw it there on the weekends a lot.

She called me a week later and said her mother bought the car brand new and had left it to her when she passed. She was looking for a mini-van anyway and told me once she found one it was mine for $750 if I wanted it.

A few weeks later she found a new car and I went to pick it up. Drove it for 11 months before the tranny went out and did some bodywork on it in the meantime at school. Engine was still going strong but I decided it was time to swap it. I think I easily got my money's worth out of it.

Wiring harness is done. I cut off all of the extra connectors that won't be used to clean it up some.

CSM dash plugs soldered directly on.

Image

I also cut the AC plug off of the CSM engine harness and hardwired it in to the DSM harness. Its the gray plug.

Image

Wires were extended on the MPI relay connector so I can mount it in the stock location under the radio.

Here is a shot of the whole thing, I know it doesn't look like much but I have a ton of time invested in this thing.
