I sort of expect/hope to be at full boost at 7700-8100rpm. I will not take the engine past 8500 at this time though. If it does not spool with the 1.6L, then so be it. The car will sit until I can put together an engine that can make something happen. I will not risk a good running engine with nitrous just to spool turbo. I am greedy for wanting this turbo so bad, but not greedy enough to ruin a good motor. I know a 2.0L will do it and do it safely. And I feel better about not taking an engine to 9000rpm or more to use something to its fullest.

I know my limits. And as long as I can get in the car when I need to and drive it, that is all that truly matters. It still is and hopefully will always be a back up vehicle. If the little guy can't spool it, it just gives me even more reasons to start the safety equipment. That will take a while and cost money. Engines can be had easy and put together easy. Safety is far more important and needs to be done right. Not to mention I can be extremely creative with that.

Not even a itty-bitty-ol 25 shot?? It would make a huge difference and I doubt it would hurt the motor in the slightest. Just shut it off once the turbo spools and hold on.

I was going to say, throw it on a hobbes switch, besides a solenoid sticking there is going to be no way your going to hurt a properly tuned motor with a 35shot.
Andrew.

Full boost is seen at 6200rpm in third gear. She is really lazy in between shifts though. Just seems like too much gear for now. I may whip up a small tranny for drag racing this year. She is fun to say the least. Just a few more loose end and I can turn the boost up. It is tuned at wastegate pressure right now.

Weighed the car again. It still 2270lbs. So going to the new setup the car stayed the same.

I did some preliminary tuning tonight. I ran out of fuel very fast with the 1150's. And the poor 38mm wastegate is creeping pretty bad. Hopefully when I can figure the fuel out, I can get the boost up, and the wastegate can control the boost a little better.

I did have one pull that based at 25psi and crept to 30. I only streamed that log and had to get out of it as the car was leaning out really bad. Like 13.5:1 before I knew it in third gear. Anything over 21psi in I cannot keep the car from going lean. When you guys see the datalog you will see what I mean. The car is pretty lazy, if you want to call it that, until 24psi. At 25psi it was INSANE. It was probably the most violent car I have ever been in up to this point. Hard to say where the car would have been acceleration wise, but I think 11's are attainable with even the big tranny. The mafraw hit 3500hz in that log. The one I am going to share peaks at 2800hz. The turbo has a serious threshold when it makes that turn to start making good power.

It is truly suprising how well it uses the boost and power. Even with the long gears. I think with the right tranny, some good boost and this car will be a terror in the quarter mile. I am currently looking for a tranny that will fit a dsm clutch.

Oh, and for some reason the 1.6L centerforce clutch is still holding strong. It is just totally wierd.

For those that can see, I am putting a datalog on the dsmlink forums. I was about to begin dialing in the boostest, but ran out of fuel basically at 16psi and just wanted to play a little more before I put the car away for the night. When I take the next step with the fuel system, I will dial the boostest in at that time.

Just thought I would share a fun night.

Well I found two issues/restrictions.

I am on a stock wired 255 pump. So bobby and I figured it may be time to rewire the fuel pump. So techinically I am "out" of fuel pump. But the other issue helped today.

After talking with Bobby, we thought we would try and dial the maf in. It was when I had the 1G MAS. But when I put the GM MAF in, it has always been wierd. But I was using the airflow sliders as extra fuel sliders. Today I spent some time dialing the MAF in. Right away it started to run better. But I spent an awful long time pulling fuel out of the big end. It took forever. But my duty cycles started to drop a lot. I got them down to the 70-75% range before I turned the boost up from 18psi.

I finished off the tune at 22-23psi with 90-95% duty cycles. My 80-100 times are approaching 2.0 seconds now. And that is basically in the shift on the 2-3 and having to slightly respool in third gear. So maybe a smaller gear and some more boost to keep the shaft speeds up, and we might be in business.

The datalogs look much more "normal" now. I still have to tailor the 7500 and 8000 slider up, but not as drastic as the other datalog. So a lot of progress was made. A good way yo waste a half a tank of gas.

So first order of business is to rewire the fuel pump. If I can get this turbo over 25psi I think I can be satisfied for a little while. I feel it is at least knocking on the door of a 11 second pass. It pulls like a train compared to the 16g in the big gears.

Thanks to Bobby and Jason for keeping me calm today and for letting me bounce some ideas off of you guys. Still neat I have taken the 1150's, 255 and stock wiring this far. The MAF is saying I am flowing 3000hz or so now and 44-45lbs/min.

I really had to think about it. But Bobby through out the idea into tricking the ecu into more fuel by adding air back into it. It made sense, I was just fighting it. Still not the monster I want, but one step closer.

I really think I am starting to see the limits of a stock 1.6L head and intake manifold. I may be investing into say a 1G head and at least a 1G intake for it. But may save some pennies and put an intake on it. That should bring her back where I need. It just doesn't feel right from 7500-8500. But from 6000-7500 it feels like it should. It could be the wastegate finally opening up and kicking me in the nuts too. Nicks takes a big dive on the dyno after the wastegate opens. It looses a lot of power.

Would you consider the 4g67 head, same combustion chamber size, but 4g63t sized ports in and out. Keep your compression, gain the top end flow over the small 4g61 sized ports. It's a thought.

Probably not. I am most likely going to start the transition to 2.0L some time this year hopefully. After much thought and snooping around last night, I think my headgasket it on its way out. My car has pushed almost 4 gallons of water the last two days. Thats right, GALLONS. I was trying to deny it, but there really is no other explanation for it. So I am going to grab a 2.0L head this week and start some work on it.

It is a bummer, as I wanted to see where the car stood against the locals. But I really need to start focusing on safety stuff next.

That and I really want to retire the 1.6L as a running engine. Not with a nice window in the side of it to check out the scenery.

Sucks about the head gasket Steven. I really think you should just pop another 1.6L head gasket on it and torque it down to 105 ft/lbs. Get that pump re-wired and get a nice safe tune at 25+ psi, then start looking for a complete 63t to build. The 1.6 can easily handle the 25-30 psi...yes, it will be restricted but it will still be fast and you can work on building a more complete 2.0L.

Me and the misses talked. For now I am going to pull the head, double check the block to make sure there is nothing going on in there. Then have the head resurfaced, throw some ARP head studs in it, a stock 4g61 gasket, and run it that way. May peak out around 24-27psi and leave it. The fuel pump rewire is cake and I am going to man up for the first time in 8 years and rewire one. That should please bobby and give me a little more room to play. And while I am in there, I am going to remove the restrictor in the fuel pump. Just give myself a tiny bit more edge. Maybe 30psi is not out of the question with the 1.6L and 1150's.

The plan is to go full 2.0L for the finished project. I may still do a 1.6L bottom end. Have to mull it over for a while. The 1.6L has been fun and been literally the toughest motor I have ever had. Including two built 2.0L's.

But I think the street driving is about to come to a hault. There is just too much to risk. Need to be smart about this hobby. I want to be able to keep enjoying it. And want to start getting serious with my 200mph goal.

Well, not 100% sure, but there is definitely a problem. Started the car momentarily last night. And it is pushing straight water out of the exhaust. It smells terrible. I am hoping it is just the head gasket. But the car is down and out for now. Gonna start pricing some things out.
