Multiple streams of income. The best things have happened to me when I got fired from a job. Now I'm "the dsm guy" and sell a lot of dsm parts from my shop at my home. I do a lot of installs of stock stuff and occasionally a swap for someone. I love the lifestyle of working at home but..... its annoying at times also, wife always wants you to do something else and late nights in the shop is bad on your family life.

I'd say, keep your job for now. Get into more things that bring multiple streams of income and eventually you can quit.

I'd suggest fixing a car a month to sell on craigslist or autotrader for profit, I'd part out a couple cars if you have the space. Go to local towing auctions etc. to find decent deals. Find out where you can take the scrap metal you will have left over from your part outs. Recycle everything on the cars from the radiator, to the wiring, to the cat converter etc....

Keep doing your mounts etc.... we all love them!

Being in the aftermarket performance business for the last 18 years,I wouldn't want to step out and open a shop in todays times. The guy I work for has been in business since 1973, still going strong today. But it's a war zone out there, no one is loyal anymore, customers, suppliers,employees... Not to mention overhead, insurance, payroll.
It's hard to make a honest dollar, the internet has whored the whole market up, not to mention EVIL-BAY....

Plus todays economy isn't helping..

Well guys I know its been a while but I just wanted to pop in here and give an update. I'm still doing all of my custom parts and heading to the yards about once or twice a week. I started class again last Wednesday on Paint/Autobody and loving every minute of it.

Am I getting rich, of course not but I have been pretty busy. Someone is constantly needing a part and I always grab stuff at the yards that I know I can sell.

Do I miss my old job? NO :P
