Engine belts are all on, harness almost done, just waiting on a exhaust manifold gasket or it probably would of been running today. FMIC sprayer mounted (no pics yet) and lines ran for it, bottle mounted - barely enough room for it. Tomorrow the gasket comes in and hopefully it will run tomorrow...

Oh yeah, still waiting on seats, they are over a week late. And I still need to re-wire the plc to control the sprayer, display the pressure of the bottle and intake air temp to see how much of a difference it makes. :D

Can anybody explain this video... Click here to watch smoking-vent
- it seems to be smoking out of the valve cover vent. I am not sure why, I have never heard of this before. Every other time when I put the engine back together I always had that line going back into the intake piping so I did not notice it before. I think it is smoking a little bit more than I would like.

ur rings are bad. Do a compression test on the motor. That is whats called blow-by. I can almost guarantee that one of the rings is bad I have had a couple motors do that. Usually the number 1 or 3 cylinders

^^^ What he said. I was going to mention checking your PCV valve to make sure it's not plugged.

thats to much smoke for a pcv valve. But you could always try it

If his rings were that bad, I would think he would have alot of smoke coming out of the exhaust. Either way, perform a compression test on the engine.

Definitely a compression test is in order. I mentioned the PCV because his breather is supposed to "breath in" and gets drawn into the intake manifold via the PCV valve. If it's plugged, then the gas has nowhere else to go but back through his breather.

But then again.....that is a wee bit more smoke than usual.

Either your engine is built to extremely loose tolerances, or there is a bad ring somewhere. Does it always smoke that much?

It never smoked out the valve cover before. I rebuilt the engine almost 3 years ago now I think. Its already bored .020 over so I think I will dig the spare block out of the shed and order up some better internal parts.

I found out what the problem was...

Piston #2:
Image
- crack above the middle ring

Piston #3:
Image
- crack above oil ring on the right
- missing chunk out just above the middle ring
- missing parts above top ring too
- and some more pitting along the top edge

Piston #3 again:

I am pretty sure all the detonation had something to do with the piston damage that was done. I am not really sure what happened first but the car did run perfect until the timing belt jumped while it was left in gear on a trailer in tow last fall. I did repair the cam timing and still raced it with all this damage and bent valves. 13.2 @ 85 mph.

Well that would explain the blow by! Not the sort of explanation one would like to see however. So whats the plan now then, is it rebuild time with the spare block?

I am rebuilding the block that came out of there. The head already is done. Ported, oversized valves, 272 cams, gears and all the other good stuff. The block is going .040 over and forged parts. Getting everything balanced and hopefully with in the next year a bigger turbo... I am not sure how much the 20G can do.

Well, my new engine parts came in today... I like these the most. Pistons are now sized for the block, crank sizing is done. We have a 4 day long weekend now and nobody is open until wednesday, so wednesday morning I am making the 2.5 hour (one way) trip to drop off the internal engine parts to get balanced. I was told they can get done with in a week. Within two weeks the building should start... this weekend I am going to tear open the tranny and order some parts up for it :D . I want to be able to use this power.

Very Nice :) I'm curious, what brand timing belt is that? Also, I opened up an engine not too long ago with almost identical damage to the pistons. I bought an AWD that came completely stock except a 2.5 turbo back, dejon intake pipe, B16G, and a MBC...you can do the math  But yea, somehow things got hot in there :x
