Well I picked up a 1989 mirage turbo today, I thought I would start a thread just to kind of introduce myself and get some idea as to what I got myself into. I picked it up from another member with a blown headgasket and all torn appart. It has a quaife front lsd in the rebuilt 1.6 liter transmission. It comes with an unused new copy of dsmlink, an evo 3 16g, act 2600 pressure plate with lightweight flywheel. Im probably forgetting a lot of things, but those are the major things. For the most part I'll be running the parts it came with, its mostly for daily driving purposes. I will be putting a 2 liter fwd transmission in it for the taller gears, so Im curious as to what the transmission in this car is worth to people. Im also going to call up quiafe and see if theres any way I can change the diff housing and put it in my awd talon. The only issues I see now are that I will have to have the exhaust fabricated since it only came with a downpipe. Most likely I'll be using a cat I already have back home and having it welded with no muffler. A dsm seat should be going into it since the stock seat is all torn up.

I'll post more later, I haven't even had a chance to take pictures yet.

The factory tranny is a KM210 (F5M31), the gearing is very similar to a 1g FWD tranny, except a slightly shorter 1st and 2nd, and a shorter final-drive ratio. Why the hell wouldn't you want to use the Quaife in the Mirage though? FYI, you can use it in your 1g AWD, but I think it's a stupid idea.

the car was bought as a daily driver, not a track car. When I get out of college and have a real job I might consider opening this up into a beast, but for now it doesn't need anything special. I don't know if its a legit copy of dsmlink, but I talked with the previous owner for a long time and he didn't seem like the type of person to buy a counterfit copy. Also, the box looked very professional, not something I would expect from someone knocking off copys of dsmlink.

the 2.0 tranny has taller gears, Im almost positive. Plus, th 93+ fwd trannys have taller 5th gears than the 90-92, so I would assume a 89 tranny would be either just as short or shorter than the 90-92. Also, its made for a 1.6 liter so I would guess based on the fact that it has less power it would need shorter gears, just like my room mates scion.

Please post up pics of the link, there are some details on there website on how to tell a real from a knockoff. The car was a great deal, I wanted to pick it up, but it was too far for me!

The 2.0 FWD tranny has a taller final-drive, and a taller 1st and 2nd gear, but all the other gears are the same. Also, 93+ trannies do NOT have different gearing, all the years are all the same for 1g's. Shorter gearing makes for a much more entertaining driving experience if you ask me, but to each their own.

:D Just make sure to hold that tranny for board members only, when you decided to sell it.

to be honest with you, I don't care if its real or not, Im going to use it either way,... Only difference it makes to me is just if its real I can get a dsmlink account, but thats about it.

the tranny is pretty much for sure for sale, just a matter of me getting the car running first and then swaping the tranny (I want to drive it with the current tranny first so I can feel the difference).

I was really happy about the evo 8 maf that it came with though. Im off to work on this bad boy now, I'll snap some pics today and post them later tonight.
