Are there any turbo setups for the 4G15 around this board? All I get is broken links and people telling other people not to do it. I can build a turbo setup for under $1000. I can't find any 4G63t's with the ecu, harness, tranny, mounts and axles for that. Just wondering if anyone has any pics or stories...you can tell I'm bored.

U can find all the swap stuff for about 1500.00 or leszs if u look around.......for the extra 500 u spend its way worth it... lots more power and a better tranny to handle it... if u build the 1.5 with a turbo u will spend more than 1500 after u blow the tranny7 a few times and possibly the motor also.......spend the extra money u will be better off..

Most will say it's a a bad idea without really saying why. Here's why: The cooling capability of the 4G15 is marginal. It's enough for a stock and slightly modified engine, but once you turbocharge it, the head/block cant stay cool enough.

Here's how to go the turbo 4g6x route cheap:

Find yourself a 4g63 SOHC engine. Plenty of them out there and very cheap. It's the same block as the 4G63 DOHC and it's the same as the turbo DOHC engines minus the oil squirters. If you go with the SOHC engine, you'll have to find a DOHC head. the DOHC is the same as the turbo version. I believe the crank and rods are the same as the turbo. You'll need turbo pistons. Order them off ebay or goto your 'discount auto parts' store and get some badger pistons or whatever cheapies they have there.

Use a hyundai KM210, equivalent to a F5M31. Proper turbo tranny would be a f5m33. it just wont be able to take as much torque but will be fine for stock and mildly modified turbo engines (not CRAZY modified).

ecu & harness can be found on ebay. People here sell them cheap too. There's also a writeup somewhere that tells you how to mod a NA harness for turbo use. You still need the turbo ECU though. You could always megasquirt and not worry about that.

proper injectors. 390cc for automatic ecu, 450cc for manual ecu. if you megasquirt, you can use whatever you want.

turbocharger/manifold... ebay or here.

BOV, MAF, IC... BOV is generic. get one off ebay. one of the cheap chinese ones for now. MAF... I dunno if you can use a NA and modify or not. search on that one. IC... ebay or here. Plenty of people selling the stock SMIC for cheap.

mounts... all of them are the same except the tranny and rear mount I believe. Someone here is starting to make duplicates, but also some people sell pulls from the junkyard. check the FS section.

fue pump... stock will do for stock. once you start modifying, get a 255lph pump from ebay.

a lot of this will carry over to a 4g15 turbo job, but the 4g6x block is so much better for turbo use.

most of what he said was correct...........most

1. you need mounts from an elentra or sonota.........just get all of them its easier

2. modding the n/a wiring harness is a slut

3. Oil sqirter or not your still missing an oil pan, oil lines and alot of other miscellaneous shit, like knock sensor ect.........

4. you can EASILY find a beat to hell fwd turbo and be done with it

5. a stock pump is garbage with a turbo motor.

NOW if you still want to turbo that hunk of crap here is the way to do it

1. the stock mani would make an excellent candidate for a turbo mani, go honda style and weld on an adapter plate

2. smic, bov all that shit........go crazy spend 40$ and go nuts

3. get a 4g37 ecu and an safc, the 4g37 ecu will allow you to tune for injectors 390's is what i would recomend, 450's are pushing the limits of the safc

4. IMPORTANT ...... get a dsm radiator this is a must like skrenos said the cooling is for shit on the 4g15, i mean have you EVER seen the size of you radiator?

5. Coolant lines --rerout them from tb

6. almost forgot........FUEL PUMP a dsm one will work wonders

sure i'm prolly missing some stuff, but in all reality and being honest you prolly won't attempt this, or try and get bored and give up, those are strong probabilities

but whatever you do good luck

Yeah! There was a lot of stuff there so I was bound to miss a bit.

As for the oil supply/return, you could tap your oil filter thingy... or on the 4g15, not sure if they have them, remove an allen set screw from an oil galley and tap from there, and your return could be like the ford 2.3 turbos. A lot of people drill a hole right above the oil pan on the block nd return there. That way if you have to drop the pan, you dont have to disconnect the oil line.

Fuel pump... I had to replace the one in my laser... $80 shipped off ebay. 255lph.

and it's so much easier finding a trashed turbo car or one that has a warped head or has been wrecked.

That's very inciteful. The part about getting bored and giving up is not true though. I built a 92 Acura Integra GS with the factory non-rebuilt 180,000 mile motor with stainless manifold/downpipe, my own custom built T3/T4 balanced turbo, ZDyne Gold ECU, SMIC, Tial 38mm wastegate, Walbro 255lph pump, 390cc injectors, and I did all this for $980. I got the turbo from a junkyard for $50 and bought a rebuild kit and did it myself. My friend works at a machine shop so he balanced the turbo for me cheap. All the other shit came from the junkyard or ebay. Car ran reliably until my tranny shit the bed on me and I decided to make a profit on everything and scrap the car (it was fairly rusted by then and had already been totalled and fixed once). But I sold the engine on Ebay for $700 and I got $280 for the turbo so I'd say I didn't make out too badly on that. But to answer your question, yes I have seen the rad and yes, it is VERY small. Another question, this manifold looks like it's going to be hard to modify anyone ever attempt this? Also, I'm not looking for rediculous performance (like 4G63 performance), just half decent.
