Hi. Has anyone upgraded their swaybar(err, ANTIsway bar)? I have my motor out in anticipation of an AWD conversion. I know that the current bar should fit very well. But should/could I upgrade the bar? Push to shove, I can go to a machine shop and have the current bar reproduced with a larger diameter steel, but is there an after market job that I can use? What are the problems? Should I make urethane bushings, or are these available, too? Thanks for advise. (Yes , I am going to do a search now; no, I forgot to do that before I wrote this, sorry.

Couldn't you just use an upgrade rear sway bar for a 1g AWD? Those are easy to get ahold of. Suspension Techniques makes a 1" rear sway bar that comes with urethane bushings, I think RRE sells it for $160. It's a very nice piece, I have one on my 1g AWD.

I have a upgraded rear sway bar! but couldn't tell you what kind. It was on the car when I bought it

Other than the turbo sway bar (which I assume you have), I don't know of anything else that will fit.

bill - sorry, i don't know of any other bars that would work. the option you said seems to be the only way at the moment.

I seem to remember hearing that the 1G FWD one works in the rear. For the front, the 1G AWD one should work.

its recommended that the fwd cars don't install a rear sway bar, as it can make the car snap oversteer and makes it unpredicatable while driving at 10/10ths.

as far as an awd converted csm gor for the huge rear sway bar, you will kave that extra oomph pushing you around, and it will allow you to 4 wheel drift through the corners, instead of understeer.

Ah! That sounds interesting, but what do you mean by the "huge" rear antisway bar? Model or part number? Dealer or aftermarket?

Bill, go with an RM racing rear swaybar, and poly bushings.

Cool. I just found out that lilEvo, now has his CD on AWD conversion ready. Cost:$50. Since I got onto this asway thing, I realize that I already have an upgraded REAR asway. Along with the roll cage, I'm thinking that this is enough in the back end. I will still look into the front improvement now that the bay is all open.

no updates? did you find out what will work in the front?

FYI upgraded swaybars on FWD are great so long as your not a pussy and can handle some opposite lock. My turbo Excel has upgraded front and rear bars and exhibits very nicely controlled "lift-off" oversteer. If it steers too much you just give it some more juice which understeers the front and corrects the action.
