She's now considered unsafe to drive. Leaky gas tank that drips on the exhaust, warped rotars, engine leaks oil, and overall a crappy interior, she's off the road. So instead of spending more than the car's worth for a daily driver, me and my friend are going to completely re-do it, aiming to make it the fastest street car in the Winona County area, in MN.

Here's a breif list of our plans to do to it:

AWD
4g63t
400+hp
stripped interior
full rollcage
240sx wheels
racing seats
spray painted body

In other words, the unltimate sleeper. With that kind of a setup, we'd also have a good chance of being the fastest street legal csm in the usa.

But anyways, let us know your input on this, and also most importantly...what should we name the project? It'll be a slow progressing project, as we both are in highschool, on limited income, and limited time. But we have been wanting a fast CSM for a long time, and we are going to go through with this plan.

No, but I this could be a very good learning experience. I have read all that I can about DSM's, CSM's and I feel pretty confident.

If anyone has any tips or suggestions, please post them. We are open to all suggestions to better help us out.

Also, project shitbox is a good name. I'll put that on the list. lol

The HP goal you have set is kinda lofty, you can get there without too much effort, but the secret is all in the mix of parts. 400HP is the breaking point of many stock turbo parts, like axles, crank rods, stock HG, etc, etc so just be prepared that at that project power range, everything is custom and everything is not cheap. I'm not trying to hold you back, just want to prepare you for the ultimate breaking point of many DSM parts. boostfreak did pull over 700 HP on a stock transmission but don't let that fool you, as he can DRIVE his car. Ultimately it met it's demise so prepare yourselves for the inevitable because it is something you can never be too prepared for. Heck, Bill Spruill just had his car banged to bits on the front end, 500HP range, throttle stuck open. :x

Yea, I understand that. Like I said, it won't be the quickest project ever.

Thanks for the replies. Also, any pics that anyone has of the conversion would help out A LOT.

How about "Project Never-ending" because it's going to take a loooong time...trust me, i just graduated high school two years ago, those are pretty lofty project goals for a couple of 17 year olds..."fastest street legal CSM in America..." Hmmm, there's a few pretty quick ones out there, good luck and keep us updated.

The fastest that I know of right now was a 10 second colt, front wheel drive, correct?

Do you have any idea how much money and skill it takes to build a 10 second car?

It took me a year of research and gathering parts to build a 300hp fwd street car. I'm also 29 years old and have been into DSM's for 10 years. Please don't think I'm putting you guys down because I have no idea what kind of skills you may have. I do know that building the fastest AWD CSM is not something that me and my friends could have done when we were 17.

My advice would be to just get the car swapped in FWD and go from there. You have to start somewhere. The wiring and the swap itself is a chore. There is plenty of custom work to be done also, fabbing IC pipes and other small stuff that is often overlooked. Either way Good Luck with the project!

Thanks. What I put in the first post is what I want the final product to be. We'll start with just the engine swap, and then go from there because it would be pretty stupid to build and drive a 400 hp car right away, especially since we don't know how to actually truely drive the thing that way.

But thanks for the comments. We hope to have the shitbox at my friend's step brother's shop this week some time, so I can get some pics up here of the tear down. :-D He's also in the process of selling a mud truck he bought for no reason (dumb, I know), so if he can get that sold, it'll be another 600 or so to the project.

If you want to have the quickest street colt in the country you will probably need to take that 400hp, make it whp, then double it and make it stick to the pavement.

Sure it's streetable, just not smart for someone who has no experience driving an insanely fast car.

Alot of work involved in the awd conversion. Just please do the 4g6et swap right the first time. when i first got mine the guy that did the swap did some amazingly dumb things, and i had to go back and pretty much redo it all. ive been into dsms for about 5 years now, avidly, and still learn things almost daily. complicated yet fun cars. if it starts to be a pain in the ass, dont let that stop ya. have fun with it. good luck
