CaptainT,

Can you just get oversize 2G pistons (.040 over?) and drop them in the block? That would be sweet :) I know it would require at a minimum a hone, but this could be a cheap route to turbo town ;)
The SOHC head would yield insanely high compression if you just dropped in the pistons.

Thinking about this some more, 4G63T pistons won't work, how would you make up for the extra 6mm deck height? Oh well I guess I'll just drop in a 6bolt.
Good point. You would need custom stroker pistons. The same rule applies for the compression ratio, you need a DOHC head.

I was always going to put a DOHC head on :).

I may just do the head swap and turbo on the stock block for now. What would the compression ratio be with that setup? I need to do some research I know it has been done before, at least I remember it being done...

I think I had it the wrong way at first. When you swap the DOHC head on your compression goes through the roof because the 4G64 has dome-style pistons. I'm willing to bet the pistons are also significantly weaker. You're better off not even messing with the 4G64 and just swapping in a 4G63.

Welcome Joe. Glad to see you venture over here as well. Seen you doing some good stuff on thr dsmlink forums for a few years now.

As gar as the rear end, there is not a lot you can do with direct swapping. Jaysmirage here tried to swap in a 3 bolt and a 4 bolt LSD in his Expo. Things were similar inside, but not a direct swap by any means. On the housings though, it is way way different. Jason was unable to even attempt to make it work. It would require a complete fab job to put a DSM rear end in the back of one of those vans.

So unless you are ready to get crazy, you just have to be careful if when you launch it.

Steven

Well to update, I've had a change of plan. My brother is picking up the summit for Daily driver duties, I'm parting out the 2G race car, and I'm currently searching for an EVO for my daily driver. You can blame it on the POS 93, I've grown tired of keeping that thing running.

I may return to this project and either find another Summit van or buy this one back from my brother...
