Hey so this might seem like a really stupid question to most you but what is a "stroker" motor? Or i guess I should say what is the difference between one and a stock motor?

a stroker is when you put a larger crank in a motor giving the rods more "stroke" there for being able to produce more power. in a 4g63 it would be a hyundai 2.4 crank in a Mitsubishi 2.0 making it a 2.3l. or in a small block chevy, a crank from a 400ci motor into a 350ci motor which makes it 383 stoker.

2.0L 4g63 = 85mm bore x 88mm stroke
2.3L stroker = stock-ish bore x 100mm stroke (4g64/g4cs crankshaft), in a 4g63 block
2.4L stroker = 87mm bore x 100mm stroke (4g64/g4cs crankshaft), in a 4g64/g4cs block

The stroker motors use stock-length 4g63 rods, but require custom pistons which most aftermarket piston manufacturers (JE, wiseco, CP) carry on-the-shelf. Most people opt for the 2.3 because it's slightly cheaper considering you don't have to source a different block, and using the 4g64/g4cs block requires machine work if you want to run oil squirters.

But a 400 with a 350 crank would be a 377....Kinda weird HUH.

so other than more power, are there any major advantages or major disadvantages to building or running a stroker motor?

Headache :yawinkle: Wait till you get the head worked on and go with insane cams. Then your back yard machine shop tells you that Cletus thought it be better to go .4356 oversize cause Manerd did the same thing in his 74 duster and he's runnin in the low 14's on his G-Tech from the pawn shop.

More torque and more power mainly from the cubic inch increase, downside is that it can't rev as high.
