Untrue, I have a Elantra steering rack in my Colt and the outer tie rods have a different taper and are too small for a GT spindle. So make sure you stick with the proper rack for you car and if you wanna remove power steering take the rack apart and preform the flyin miata mod on the rack. link here :

If you need any tips I can help you out I have done this mod and its amazing,
Making sure to remove inner tie rods and outer
The rack can be taken apart at the passenger side by removing the boot and under the boot there is a small rubber strap remove this to expose the slot in which the locking ring needs to be removed from. If you look closely at the end of the rack there are 4 holes I used a pair of pliers to spin this till the end of the locking ring pops out the slot and continue turning till the ring is entirely removed. Then you can use a large wrench and remove the cap nut on the lower side of the rack and the locking nut under the cap, then remove the upper two bolts holding the piece that the column attaches too. then you should be able to slide the entire rack guts out the passenger side, Then just simply follow the instructions and remove the metal ring with the rubber seal and you have a non power rack. just make sure to apply a lot of good grease onto the teeth of the inner rack and the pinon on reassembly. With all this done Enjoy! you now have a power rack ratio with no resistance of the looped line setup.
