Had a local AWD cruise from Cincy to Warsaw, KY today. Bunches of Scoobie-Doos three Evos one DSM(trooper on this board) and me. On the way back decided to take the planned route in reverse following the organizer and a few other guys. We were stuck behind slower moving traffic going around a corner when I started to feel a very bad vibration coming from the driver's rear side. My first thought was busted CV. Turns out my welds from extending the strut broke leading to this:




So a repair was needed as I was twenty some miles from home and do not have money for a wrecker. This is what we did:

So I got to ride home on a stilt! And it worked! So lesson learned: don't weld struts if you're gonna be a chicken about it and turn the heat down on the welder. I think I am going to be making the upper mount extenders that I have seen on here.

Crap! I didn't know they wouldn't work. That sucks because I just built them for my AWD Colt. Nevermind.

Unless they work some way that I am not seeing... They look like they are meant to bolt onto the solid beam with the OE FWD stuff. I have a DSM rear subframe, knuckle, etc....

They allow the CSM shock to bolt onto the DSM AWD rear radius arm. They're even angled a little bit to compensate for the different shock angle. They seemed ok when I put them on my car. I plan to weld them to the radius arm after everything is all set, just to make sure they don't start twisting on there. Not sure if they'll need it, because they squeeze pretty tightly onto the tapered DSM shock mounts.

Here's mine on CSM shocks and springs with the adapters I made:

I considered spacers at the top too, but the spring seat would be rubbing on my tires. I know the DSM struts are five inches shorter than the CSM ones, but I don't know if you can get CSM shocks in the brand you want. Just throwing ideas out there. I also don't want to see any fellow CSMers blowing up a pipe full of boiling oil in their face either.

I wanna see a pic of those on your car. LOL

You have to use CSM struts, because the DSM ones are waaay too short, but anyway, that was my idea. Hope it helps.
