 Post subject: Rear Jacking Location

Hello people,

Recently got my first parts car (5 door C53A hatch in Australia) and have been jacking it up onto blocks today.

At the front I've got one set of blocks under the chassis "rails" (box sections that extend below the floor pan) inboard of the factory jacking points. I'd like to do a similar thing at the rear, so the rear suspension can be at full droop, but when i load up the "rails" inboard of the rear factory jacking points the whole floor pan deforms vertically. The rear trailing arm attachment lugs aren't wide enough for me to get anything under (and plus the through bolt would be obscured) and I can't seem to find anywhere else that appears stiff enough to take the load.

At the moment i'm just under the rear suspension lateral beam. Has anyone got a suggestion as to where else to support it?

Can you put a jack stand under the pinch welds on either side?

Assembly line pull bar or the loop hook at the rear trunk is supposed to be the rear jacking point, but as 89Mirageman pointed out, using a long board under the rear solid axle to get the car up in the air, and setting it on jack stands at the rear pinch welds should be okay for you. Just don't be setting it down if the body is bloated bad and can possible crumble through at those spots - very dangerous if it is seriously rusted.

I usually jack mine up at the center point where the differential could be, then support with jack stands at the pinch welds like chris said. Thats how we used to do it at the old shop as well.

Thank you all for your input.

I can see where you're describing. I was originally hoping to be able to use some blocks of wood in lieu of tying up a set of jack stands, especially since the car is just sitting in one of my paddocks on the farm. Guess I'll cut some slots in the blocks of wood and remove the side skirts to prevent binding.

BTW thank you to Johnny_B for making the effort to upload a photo!
