Once the turbo was rebuilt I go to mate the two parts together and realize its too small. Seems one of the turbos was an 11b after I looked a little closer.

So now I know that the exhaust wheel on an 11b is slightly smaller than a 13g. Seems I learn pretty much everything the hard way.
11b is a td04, 13g can be td04/td04hl. wheels are the same but the chra's are not.

I got a little more done to my engine. The front cover and oil filter housing are all torqued down with oem gaskets and a little copper spray.

I also installed the rings into the cylinders and the end gaps are all within spec. Its amazing that this engine had a little over 100k on it and almost zero wear on the cylinders.

Now I just need to install the rings onto the pistons and put them in. Then I can install the pickup tube and the oil pan and put the head on. I feel like I'm finally making a little bit of progress. 8)

Pistons/rods are in and torqued down. Just need to clean up the strainer and bolt the pan on now. I also cleaned up the elantra lower control arms, painted them and replaced the ball joints.

Got a few more things cleaned up and bolted on. I grabbed a galant ac bracket/tensioner a few weeks ago and I got a good used GVR4 ac compressor from a local buddy.I'll be bolting the head on next when I get some spare time.

Also I found out the hard way that the csm's and the 92-95 elantra use a slightly different crossmember. Don't ask me why but they do. The elantra one is like an inch longer so the rear bolt holes don't line up. I sold my csm crossmember to a member on here while my car was down, figured I'd just grab another one at the yard. There was an elantra at the yard with engine out and the crossmember was really easy to get to so I grabbed it. Now I get to cut and shorten it or go searching for a 3g in the yard.

I just take my time and I don't rush anything. I keep at it until its exactly like I want it, no shortcuts. When I get tired of looking at it I cover it up and come back to it later. That is where I messed up on my 4g sedan that I parted. This time around I bought another daily driver so there is no rush.

Besides its hard to paint one thing, like the block for instance. Then bolt on a bunch of dirty, rusted parts. The new paint on the block only makes the dirty parts look that much worse. So I pretty much refurbish every part. Sure, its time consuming but I don't mind spending the time on it to get the results I want.

Even his layer of RTV on the pan is perfect. Just enough to barely outline the pan.

I finally took the time to find an oem AC evaporator, I put in a new expansion valve and replaced the O-rings and blew out 20 years of crud from the fins. Taped off the inlet and outlet to keep moisture out and installed it in the car. As you can see this one has the AC computer mounted on top of it. Luckily my car came wired for AC even though it didn't come with AC from the factory. So everything just plugged right in and it will hopefully work as it should.

Image

Here you can see the aftermarket evaporator that my colt came with as a Mopar installed dealer option. The sticker says "made in the usa", that is getting rare to see for sure.

Image

I compared the two side by side before I installed the oem one and they actually use the exact same case. The aftermarket one even has the spot up on top for the oem AC computer. The inlet and outlet holes for the lines are identical too. Instead of a computer though it had a jumper harness and then under the hood on the AC lines there was a small aftermarket computer installed there. I just wanted a factory one so that I can trouble shoot it using the manual if I need to. The Mopar one also had some sort of mesh screen wire covering the core that the oem one didn't have.

Image

I also scored a mint talon spark plug cover and bolts at the yard yesterday on a 1g that they just brought in. I cleaned it up and it looks quite nice on my red valve cover that I painted up a few months ago. Now I need to get the head on the engine and in the car. :P
