3G shifter install, 1992 eagle summit wagon AWD 4G63t swap with RVR transmission.
After I installed the RVR trans, I decided I needed a better way to shift the car. I went to the local junkyard and picked up a shifter from a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT (only the GT models with the V6 has the triptronic style shifter). Make sure you get as much of the wiring as possible and the rubber grommet that the shift cable goes on. I then reverse engineered the wiring and found it to be just what I needed.
I then researched shift boxes for the DSMs. I found that

Remove your old shifter. Install the shift cable and set the shifter to your desired location with your console laid in place. Mark and drill new holes (my holes did not line up at all). My stock shifter had two safety devices. One that would release the push button on the side of the shifter activated by turning the ignition key and one that keeps you from shifting out of park until you depressed the brake pedal. I found that the 3G shifter has these as well but on the opposite side of the shifter mounts(pics included).
These interchanged very well, all I had to do was enlarge the holes for the brake pedal safety switch to mount on the new shifter.
Once I had it mounted it was time to start wiring it in.
The shift box comes with pretty detailed instructions and the wiring colors are easy to use(if that makes sense).
The wiring for the 3G shifter is pretty simple as well:
There are six wires that come from the harness of the shifter into a plug. There are other wires as well but they are for lighting and a cigarette lighter( you will know which these are when you remove the shifter from the donor car).
The main wire is the solid yellow. This wire is the common between normal (TCU) shift and triptronic shift.
With the shifter in the D position the yellow wire connects to the orange/black stripe wire.
When the shifter is in triptronic the yellow wire connects to the red/black stripe wire.
When in triptronic mode the common wire is the black/red stripe wire.
Up shift connects the black/red stripe wire to the white /red stripe wire.
Down shift connects black/red stripe wire to the black/yellow stripe wire.

Using the Shift Box BASIC with TCU or other transmission controller:
• Red wire is +12 volt power from the ignition switch, connect as follows using switch harness
* NOTE: On the fuse block there are 2 wires from the TCU fuse, both must be cut and spliced together through the supplied switch harness to prevent the TCU from being powered when the shift box is being used.
Red wire to Green switch harness wire
Yellow switch harness wire to fuse block harness (Power from TCU fuse)
Brown switch harness wire to fuse block harness (This will power the TCU)
• Black wire is ground, connect to a good clean chassis ground
• White wire splices with the Tacho output from the ECU
• Yellow wire goes to Shift Solenoid A
• White/Yellow wire goes to the TCU Shift Solenoid A output
• Brown wire goes to the Shift Solenoid B
• White/Brown wire goes to the TCU Shift Solenoid B output
• Optional wires for external shifter control:
White/Black wire is the shift input common (sensor ground) for use with an external shifter
Purple wire is the up-shift button (short to white/black wire to perform up-shift)
White/Purple wire is the down-shift button (short to white/black wire to perform down-shift)
• Any remaining wires should be capped
TCU Diagram that I used was for the 1992 awd talon.
Ok so now you know what wires do what, here is how I wired them:
Connect the Black wire from the shift box to a good ground source.
Connect the white from the shift box to the tach signal from your ECU( I used pin 109 a white wire but this you must research, do not use the signal from the CAS).
Power input for TCU and Shiftbox:
I am using the early 3 plug TCU, which uses 2 blue/black wires for power input to the TCU(104 and 109). Cut the wires and give yourself enough room on each end because you are going to connect to each side:
Connect the yellow wire from the 3G shifter to the harness side.
Connect the orange/black from the 3G shifter to the TCU side.
Connect the red/black wire form the 3G shifter to the red wire (shiftbox power).
Shift solenoids:
Solenoid A is pin 102 of the TCU.
Solenoid B is pin 107 of the TCU.
Again cut them but leave enough room to splice into each side.
Connect the yellow wire to wire you cut for solenoid A( wire that now goes to the solenoid out of the TCU pin 102).
Connect the white/yellow wire form the shift box to the wire you cut for solenoid A( wire going into the TCU pin 102).
Connect the brown wire to wire you cut for solenoid B( wire that now goes to the solenoid out of the TCU pin 107).
Connect the white/brown wire form the shift box to the wire you cut for solenoid B( wire going into the TCU pin 107).
Triptronic 3G shift:
Connect the black/ red stripe wire from the 3G shifter to the white/black wire from the shift box.
Connect the white/red wire form the 3G shifter to the purple wire from the shift box.
Connect the black/yellow wire from the 3G shifter to the white/purple wire form the shift box.
LED display:
Red wire to red for shift box power that was connected to the yellow wire for the 3G shifter.
Black to ground.
White wire to solenoid A which was connected to yellow wire from the shift box to the TCU pin 102.
Green wire to solenoid B which was connected to the brown wire from the shift box to TCU pin 107.
I installed my LED gear indicator inside my gauge cluster and ran the wires down to the shifter using double side sticky tape.
shift into "D" and the tcu shifts the car normally.
push the lever to the right and it engages the shift box which gives you full line pressure and full control over the shifts.
slap up for upshift and down for downshift.
awseome fun to drive now.
$130 total spent and love the car!! best mod since the turbo 4g63 install!!
