Hey All,

I know some of you have some 4G63T experience, so here's my dilemma.
i'm working on the new engine assembly for the talon. I bought a new 7 bolt bottom end and noticed some differences in the oil pick up tube and windage tray. The new engine had a different style pick up and bolted on 2 places and had no windage tray, my original engine one bolted on in one spot and allowed the windage tray. In comparison my original engine girdle has 6 bolt holes, where the new one only has 4. Would this have been a revised block that didn't require a windage tray? or would I be missing the proper windage tray for the new engine? Any help would be great as I don't want to bolt on the base pan without knowing.

here are some pics:

Here's a teaser of the block and head though

Thanks in advance,
Jim

exactly. I think the 1g 7 bolts and the 2g 7 bolts are diff... and for reference.. thats called the girdle.. not windage tray.

From those intake ports it looks like a 2g head. Nice.

It didn't come out of a car, it's a brand new short block from Mitsubishi. The bottom end was assembled, so I'm unsure what version it is, 1G or 2G, but going from memory it's possibly a 1G, I'm heading there tomorrow, I'll try to snap a few pics to determine.

I know, I posted the girdle because one is all I have nothing came on the new block when I bought it. I haven't posted the windage tray, i'll grab a pic tomorrow as well.

It is in fact a 2G head, this is for my 1997 Talon TSi.

it has the bosses in it for the front/rear engine mounts in it... so its from a 1G or GVR4 for sure.

the head is a 2G....

Looks ready to go!!!! get her running yet?

Then the consensus is that the block is a 1G 7 bolt. Explains the difference in the windage tray.

Thanks! I still have it on the engine stand, I got screwed on a transmission so I have to put one together, sent my center diff to jack's, waiting on that, then tossing engine and tranny in the car. I've been working on the Colt project as well, so back and fourth from one to the other
