I have heard that the 2.4L 5-speed Early 90's hyundai sonota's have the same tranny that comes stock in the 89 Turbo colts (with the short gear ratios)

I found a tranny at the junkyard. Its in a 1993 Hyundai Sonota 2.0L DOHC (4g63) and its 5-speed.

Would this be the same tranny?

I looked all over it to find a serial number but the only number i could find was

"AN 685297"

anyone have any info if this is the tranny im looking for?

It was a hydro tranny and had the mounts like a 1G DSM or 89 Colt GT so i imagine it would bolt in... Just wondering if its as stong as the original 89 turbo colt ones. (KM box)

well i realized it cant be a KM210 box. The casing looks nothing like the KM210..... more like the same tranny that 1G N/A 4g63 talons/ecipses use.

I wonder what the gear ratios are tho.

PM Mirage1 over on mirage forums, he owns an early 90's sonata and knows quite a bit about them. I always thought the 2.4 sonatas had the KM210, not sure what the later models with the 2.0 used though.

I don't think these trannies have the same gearing as the 1.6 turbo cars. In fact, I know for sure the final-drive is a lot taller and the 5th gear is taller, but the other gears might be the same ratios.

I have one of these in my garage. It from a 2.4 sonata and has km210 stamped on the bottom of it.

Yeah, its the tranny out of the early 2.4 sonata's you want. I have the final drive in my KM210 and it really lengthened the gears. 4.0(Sonata versus 4.3(stock C53A turbo). I like it a lot.
