Well I am usually pretty quiet on forums, but I thought I would formally introduce myself. I bought Michael DeSalvo's 1989 Mirage turbo (http://www.4g61t.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=33474) a couple of years ago and drove it from Northern California to North Carolina, which makes me the second owner. I've had some contact with a couple of you guys and I read stuff here often. I also have a Galant VR-4 with a 2.3 engine swap and an FP Green (which needs a tune). My previous screen name was GVR-4, but I forgot my password and which email I used to register under that name, so now I'm GVR-4 reprise.

Right now the Mirage has had the 1.6 pulled and I will slowly prepare the original 2.0 shortblock from the Galant to drop in. The 1.6 started leaking oil pretty badly (even for a DSM) and I opted to just build up the 2.0 on an engine stand rather than track down all the places the 1.6 was leaking from in the engine bay.

I've got specific plans for both cars with the Galant serving as my daily driver and the Mirage as my project car. Ultimately I plan on selling the Galant and replacing it with a Volvo V70R, but keeping the Mirage for my hobby.

Welcome and you got one awesome car! God the name Desalvo brings back a flood of memories of sound deadening and stereo wiring under the carpets. Super clean build and super nice guy, forgot he was not around anymore; time does that unfortunately. Good to see another survivor going to a good home. You got an engineers car!

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, Michael is a really nice guy. He picked me up at the airport and fed me the night I picked up the car. He even offered to let me stay the night before I started the long drive home. I would have stayed, but I had to be in Texas in 2 days, so off I went.

I did get a killer ride and Michael really took good care of it and it has many nice upgrades. From the hands of one engineer to the hands of another. :yawinkle:

We got GVR-4's profile up and running again, but we will let this thread stand as it is.

I remember you, you're the guy with a lift in your garage. Also, if I remember correctly Michael was an older guy, maybe close to 70. That is a very clean car for sure.

Hey Chris. Yes, that's right, we bought the house a couple of years ago (right before the Mirage) and the PO was a car collector. Now I use the lift for turning wrenches instead of just storage. I've followed your builds/threads and really appreciate the quality of work you do. I may be hitting you up for some Expo knuckles. Maybe we could work out a trade or something. Michael wasn't quite 70, I think he was around 54 though. He sure kept the Mirage clean.

Sure man, let me know. They brought in another Expo the other day. I thought I remembered him stating he was around 70 but looking back I believe I was thinking of Bill Spruill. I think he had a pretty young kid for his age though. So many members come and go on here, hard to keep up with them.

I'll can get some current pics up, but keep in mind the engine is out and I'm putting some coilovers on it while still retaining the nice Koni's and Tein AWD spring rates. I need to raise it up so I can put some new tires on it with a bit more sidewall. It might be better if I just post up the old pics Michael has taken so you're not disappointed. :yawinkle:
