Had a small diesel dyno event local to me today. It was at an RV and industrial diesel type shop and they had a Taylor chassis dyno. I had never heard of one before. I guess its used for big rig type applications. How they run it scared the shit out of me! ha! Basically they run the engine up to redline and hold it there, then apply a water break load and bring it to full throttle at max rpm. Then they increase the load leaving it at WOT and drag the engine rpm down from redline, all the way down to above idle or whatever "normal" starting rpm would be, the whole time leaving it wide open throttle and the turbo screaming at max boost! It's scary hearing the engine drop rpm lower and lower and get down really low but the turbo is still screaming bloody murder at max boost pressure. My truck nuts shriveled up into my exhaust pipe cause I was scared waiting for something to go bang! lol I found out my turbo was only set to 35psi (suppose to be wastegated at 40psi) so I didn't have enough air for cooling under that much load so to keep EGT in check they had to let off the throttle to about 75% or so. I still made 485whp 975wtq through 33" tall mud tires and dually too so I'm spinning 4 of them. I'm gonna install a manual boost controller and set boost to 45psi where it should be and go back sometime and see what she'll do. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... ZREhJW2yno Video of my truck on the dyno. I LOVE the turbo sound, it's like a 747 at takeoff rated thrust. |

Don't know. It would be slow though being a manual tranny. Its meant for working, not play. If it was an auto probably high 12s but the manual trucks can't build load at the starting line and lose boost on each shift plus its geared like a semi. Manuals are 2-3sec slower in the 1/4 because of that.

Launch in second or third and no lift to shift that pig. |

obviously Shaun has never driven or rode in a manual diesel with decent power. It doesnt work. it just locks you out untill it feels like going in gear. My buddy has a Twin disk in his lightly modded common rail. It shifts decent for a truck. but its no racecar |

Yeah you got me. To me trucks are like a good ratchet, its useful when you need it but otherwise is just a tool. But I do appreciate a truly fast truck. |

Yeah, I didn't buy it for a play truck like some guys do. But that doesn't mean I can't have some fun with it. |
