Hello, my name is TJ and I own a 1990 Eagle Summit (4g15, Automatic transmission).



About me:

Currently a college student. I have probably the worse knowledge of anyone on this board when it comes to cars. I have managed to do the basic tune up stuff (with the help of a manual), but most of the stuff I have been reading here is above my head at this point. Still I am looking forward to leeching as much information from you guys as I can (by searching past threads of course). Hopefully one day I will be able to give back some of the stuff I learned to other people.

About my Car:

My car belonged to my father and he gave it to me three years ago after it failed the emissions test ( which thankfully they stopped requiring since I now live in same town). It has 180k miles on it (original powertrain) and I have driven it back and forth over The Rocky Mountains 12 times so far (which I think is impressive since I drive like ass on mountain roads). It has been a good car and I hope it has another 15-20 years in it.

Future Stuff:
I love my little car but soon it is going to need a transmission rebuilt, and I would one day like to give it enough get up and go that it can easily pass a car while going up a hill (since we have a lot of mountains in Colorado).

Can't see it here but the passengers side head light is wedged and taped into place because it popped out while on a dirt road and I haven't gotten around to fixing my ghetto-rigged fix .

hey welcome to the board. Always good to see someone interested in these cars. A good site for you to check out would be www.lilevo.com and see what he did with his automatic mirage sedan. And the great thing about this forum is everyone is cool unlike every other car forum where 99 percent of the people are d*icks.

You car looks clean and happy...hehehe. Clean isn't the hard part, it's the happy issue you must worry about. I went on a mission to get the best gas milage for the 4g15, but I just encountered a roadblock. My car just hit 190,000 miles...and besides that fact that it was babied by a middle aged woman for most it's life before I got it, I knew that something was bound to go out. If you don't want to deal with this before you're ready, I suggest taking it as easy on that car as possible.

My common rule...if you want to hot rod that little car, then you better be prepared to "rod" it. Hehehe and I haven't given up on my "best gas milage" colt project yet.

This is such a lame question that I just want to sneak it into this thread .

I have spent the last couple of days in, around, under, and behind my car (not on top because I would collapse the roof ) and with my manual I am doing ok at figuring out what everything is except for a little box that sits to the right of the battery and is connected to the air filter hose. I tried searching but ,since I haven't a clue what it is called and it is probably such an obvious question that no one else would need to ask, I didn't have any luck. So if you can tell me what this is I would be grateful:

It's just a resonator to keep the noise down I believe. Alot of cars have them.

Thank you for the fast response. Happy to know what it is finally.

You can get the intake setup off a hatchback, it doesn't have that box on it. Makes the engine bay a little cleaner.

I'ts not a hatchback/sedan thing it's a year/country thing. I do believe all normal illinois cars came with these.(mabe TJTay89 can confirm)

I've never seen one on a hatch. FSM says it's a sedan only thing too but who knows.
