Post subject: | Introducing myself, Brandon 89 Colt GT (4G61t) |
Just wanted to do a quick formal introduction. My name is Brandon. I live up in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. I just picked up Beaner's old nightmare project 89 Colt GT. She is in rough shape that's for sure. Hope to get her running, and just have it be my ugly sleeper. Maybe in a few years if I'm sick of the ugliness, I'll get a clean shell to swap it all into. But for now it's just my ugly junkyard side project/toy. Anywho, my background is mainly DSM's. I've owned only 3 (91 laser, 95 eclipse, 91 talon). I still currently have the Talon. It's my real pride and joy. The colt is just something fun on the side, and will be getting whatever comes off the Talon basically. Hopefully I can be of at least a little help on here. I've already been trolling the site, learning as much as I can. I hate stupid questions, and I will search until I'm blue in the face before asking something usually. Lots of good info on here though. Great FAQ section also! One other thing I'll add, is I'm a DIY kind of guy. I built as much on my talon myself as I could. 3" turbo back, intake, charge piping, and powder coated it all in my garage. I'm using a PTE bolt on turbo, but my next turbo I plan on having a Garrett T3 exhaust housing. I will be building my own T3 exhaust manifold for that as well! My stuff may not turn out as nice as something coming out of a performance shop, but it saves me money, it works, and I built it my damn self, so it's that much better in my eyes. Here's just a couple snap shots and quick vids, enjoy! My old Eclipse (sold approximately 3 1/2 years ago) Mods T3/T4 Garrett 50 trim setup. fmic safc2 660 inj. gm maf typical supporting mods. ![]() My current DSM, 91 Talon AWD (don't mind the dirty wheels!) MODS 2.0 built with Eagle Rods, Mahle Pistons, BS Elim FFWD stg.1 head, crower Ti retainters/springs, 272's PTE SCM50 fmic w/ homemade piping 3" turbo back (homemade) 650 FIC inj. Aeromotive FPR DSMLink 92 Rear Bumper swap with Maaco paint job! trypical supporting mods to go with it all. Future This winter, the only things I have planned is to get my tranny rebuilt, and upgrade to 1000-1600cc injectors so I can start running E85. ![]() http://dsmstyle.com/forums/attachment.p ... 1128806982 The exhaust I built for the Talon. It's all been painted black now with BBQ grill black paint. I also just bought a Hooker muffler to replace the shiney coffee can with And a couple little quickies we made. Just practicing with the new camera we picked up. Pump gas dyno tune at LSE Performace's Dyno Dynamics dyno in Maple Grove, MN Skooting around my neighborhood Look forward to hanging around a little on here! |

Thanks! I've tried to clean it up as much as I can. Clean 1g's aren't as easy to come across now a days. It has absolutely zero rust on the car, and that's hard to find up in Minnesota. The wheels are dirty in the picture because I just got the car back from being painted, and didn't really want to wash anything because I wasn't sure if it was safe to wash yet. |

http://forum.4g61t.org/viewtopic.php?t=19530&start=30 Beaner wasn't getting back to me on posting this info, so I thought you might be more open to the idea? Looks like the car may go the way of the wind, if you ever find another shell to swap things into and it comes to that point. Welcome to the site, and don't worry about asking dumb questions. ![]() |

Because he doesn't run an air filter. That's how he rolls. J/K Brandon, I couldn't resist. ![]() But yeah, it should really be making more power than that. |

I don't know how familiar you are with these dynos, but dyno dynamics read significantly lower. That is the one reason i don't like posting that video because those who have no idea about these dynos always post up "why such weak numbers?" Read up on dyno dynamics, and you'll understand. I forgot the percentage, but I was told I would have been around 330hp or so on a dynojet. It's hard to compare dyno numbers for me because of all the people getting high numbers on a 2wd dynojet, while mine is 4whp on a dyno dynamics. Once I get to the track, those are the numbers that I will let do the talking. 330 at all 4 wheels, on a mitsu housed 50 trim with pump gas, I don't consider that too bad at all. This was a street tune. Not a pushing the limits tune. So take that into consideration as well. This is how I drive it around all the time, so it wasn't pushed to the limits. To me, a street tune takes a little safety factor into account. With some race gas, well then I'll push the limits more with the race tune, and push as much air as the 50trim possibly can. I also think my 272 cams are going to help that number out a little as well. On that dyno pull I had FFWD's cams in there, and I am not impressed with them what so ever. They are going up for sale. HKS 272's are sitting in the garage, waiting to be dropped in.I should also add that phantom knock is kicking my ass as well, and I was in a hurry to get off the dyno because I was already late for a date with a beautiful asian! So time was of the essence! |

I realize that Dyno Dynamics Dynos read a lot lower, I've dynoed on them as well. I made 285whp on a Small 16g on a Dyno Dynamics dyno, but I was on race gas. Same boost level though. I also made 330whp on a TD05 20G on the same dyno. It really depends a lot on the dyno operator, not the dyno itself. Not trying to brag or anything, but I'm just saying that the dyno shouldn't be your only excuse. I can see that your car definitely isn't slow by any stretch of the imagniation. ![]() |

It's cool man. I just hate it when everyone always says "oh your car should be making way more". Do they not understand dyno dynamice read like 15% or so lower. Plus the fact it's awd, plus the fact this is a SAFE street tune, not tuned on the edge for max power. Tuned so I can drive it around all day without worrying about anything. Dyno numbers can just so easily be scewed. It's not the best way to compare anymore with all the different models, awd cars converting to fwd and claiming their fwd horsepower number. I'll just let times speak for themselves I suppose.![]() So your car made on race gas with a 16g, what I made on pump with a 50trim. Sounds reasonable I'd say. Was that fwd or awd hp? But 330 on pump with a 20G on a Dyno Dynamics? That's some real good power! That's uncorrected power? Again, awd or fwd? What were you tuning with? I'm hoping I can get another 15psi out of this turbo with race gas, and get close to the 400 mark. Also, I will be switching to E85 next year as my "pump gas", so that should boost up my street power level. I plan to run about 25 psi on the streets with E85. |

If I would have known you had that blue colt earlier for 200 bucks, I would have been all over that to be my shell. Just wondering if you know where it came from? My friend that lives in Maple Grove bought a blue NT just like the one you just sold, from Steve's dealership (Goat Blower on DSMStyle). He had it for awhile and sold it. It really looks like my friends old car. I remember it being very clean, but the shifter boot was horrible. His name was Austin. Anywho, thanks for the welcomes by everyone! I just gotta get this thing in the garage and start hacking away. Just bought an EGR blockoff, and ISC/FIAV blockoff for it today. Hopefully that'll clean up the vacuum mess a little bit. I also used an entire can of degreaser, and carb cleaner, on the engine bay today. I got extremely dirty just taking off the intake. Whatta mess. |

Yea, this one wasn't very clean at all. Bought it from a guy in lacrosse.
