I'm a newbie to the site. I've been into dsm's for the last 5-6 years and am active on other dsm sites. In the past 4 years being on dsm sites I've never seen this site. Anyhow,I stumbled across this site when I bought my 89 gt a few weeks ago. Here's the story. Quoted from dsmtalk so I don't have to write it all over again..."Earlier in the week my friend called me from the junk yard and told me he couldn't believe their was a colt gt up in the yard that hadn't been touched,at all. I asked him to ask how much the yard wanted for it and if there was anything visibley wrong with it and he told me everything checked out for giving it a once over. He checked the oil to make sure everything looked good and the coolant to make sure anything hadn't mixed. I told him to call me back in a bit because I was in class. He called me later on and told me that they wanted 500 for it 'as is'. So,I'm sitting and debating wether or not it's worth it because I didn't really know what was wrong with it so I decided to go back up with him and check things out for myself. I ran it by my wife and she said if I wanted it could be one of my early Christmas gifts. So we got there and we pulled the intake to the turbo and it was completely seized up. I was thinking to myself how great would it be if that was the only thing wrong with it. We tried to do a compression test but the battery was too far gone to turn the motor over. We called it a night and went back today with another battery and sure enough the car started right up (sitting for 4 months with 87 in it more than likely, bad fuel filter and autolite plugs with a seized turbo). I was amazed at how great the car ran so I drove it around the yard alittle bit and the tranny shifts great and the clutch feels nice! I was pretty much sold at that point regardless on compression (we forgot the tester anyhow) because there was no smoke,no noises,no grinding. We drove it down to the front, paid for it and went home. I drove it a good 25 minutes home and it ran GREAT for no turbo and 4 month old 87 octane with autolite plugs. I can't wait to get started on this car. Here she is with a bath. Not the greatest paint in the world but that'll add to the sleeper look!..." Heres a picture of what she looked like, ready to be parted and crushed. ![]() A picture of her after the paint removal and a quick shower. ![]() I pulled the turbo off in the past few weeks and have been at a standstill, waiting for a friend to put his holset on his car so I can have his stock 14b lines to go with a 14b I have for it. The only thing I'm concerned with is the tranny/clutch. It felt great and wasn't notchy at all driving it home but I don't know how the tranny is going to hold up to the power. Anyhow,I love this car! My wife thinks I'm nuts for buying a 'ugly car' from the junk yard for Christmas but she obviously has no clue! ![]() |

Thanks! It's very hard to not pull parts from the gsx to throw on the colt. The decent thing about it though is that every part that I upgrade on the gsx,the old setup can go on this car. With the current setup on the gsx the car should be making over 400whp at nearly 30 psi. The motor is stock and is still running strong with great compression after 3 years of 'playing'. |

Nice, sounds a lot like my DSM, only I have a built bottom-end. I'd love to see the modlist though. I think i've come across your profile on DSMTuners before.

SBRg50 660s street imports fmic bmrace tranny, double synchros 1st-2nd gear,4 sypder center diff, custom cnc aluminum shift forks,act2600,fidanza flyhweel aquamist water injection kit, running meth mix rebuilt head,4 layer metal HG,comp 101200's,manley springs 3 inch turbo back... Theres plenty more but that is the basic power setup. Not that big but it performs VERY well on pump gas and high boost. The best timeslip I have is a 12.5 at 113 at 22 psi (first time at track as well). That's minus the cams, flywheel, eprom chip with launch control and NLTS and some other lightening of the car tricks. 11's and I'll be happy for now with the stock motor. |

What idiot would have a car sent to be crushed because of a $150 turbo? ![]() The tranny is as strong as a fwd dsm turbo tranny so it should easily hold the 4G61/14b's power with no problems. If you have an old sidemount IC I'd throw that on also and rig up some pipes for it. I'm sure you've already noticed it's not intercooled. Good Luck!!! |

Thats good to hear about the tranny. Why is it that people swap to the fwd dsm trannies? For the intercooler,I accounted the high mileage and no intercooler combination to be the reason for number 1's lower compression. I'm just going to buy a fmic and call it a day. If I'm going to rig up piping it might as well be for a fmic so I only have to do it once. |

The KM210 (stock 4G61 tranny) is much harder to find than a 1g FWD tranny, that and the KM210 has much shorter gearing than a 1g FWD tranny, but I like the gearing in the KM210 a lot, it's a lot like a 1g AWD, even shorter though. I've always heard that the KM210's are a little weaker than 1g FWD trannies though, but I'm not sure.
