Actually, I've thought about doing a starquest swap. If I do decide to go with that chassis I NEED a tranny that wont shread itself...

One word............ SR20 :P

Weight is an obstacle you can cure through torque output and gearing :D

-wideblock (truck, I believe) 4G64, I'd destroke it
-87-88 Mazda B2600 bellhousing ( not to be confused with B2600i, which
is fuel injected )
-Mazda RX-7 tranny ( preferably TurboII )

since the Mazda bellhousing mates a mitsu 2.6 to a mazda truck tranny, it will work with their little siblings. as far as clutch and flywheel go, I dunno.

do some browsing over at starquestclub.com and other sites like it. I learned that in one feverish search on a day when I almost had an 87 conquest.

im not sure that they bolt to the starrion tranny, but logic says that the carb'd B2600 would have to be the same as the G54B in the starion.

right?

I'm also on the starquest site...


F22 toyota bellhousing mates to the narrow 4G63x block, mates THAT housing with the the starquest gearbox and you got a winner.
Downside is the gearbox cant handle the torque.

Since the starquest bellhousing WILL mate to a 4G64 widebody block,
I could have an adaptor sandwiched at the end of the starquest bellhousing to accept a Borg Warner [w5] ford gearbox. :twisted:

All in all, would be a great project......

Some guys back east are still looking out for a miata chassis, so I'll keep you posted
