Yes, that is running the chip that you setup for the car.

Guess we don't need Hot Rod status afterall.

Funny thing is that I ran my car at least 2-3 times as Hot Rod at the local dealer, where I took it to get tested again.

I was also able to test my own car, because I was an E-test Technician at the time.

I wanted it on file if there were any issues, because Mitsu wouldn't know what I asking them if I needed a letter asking about this motor and this car, and it's a Plymouth but not really .... ... better yet, see Dodge where they can't even find the model of my car to look up parts with. Go PartsBase.org! Anywho .....

Nobody told me what needed to be done to get Hot Rod status, but that was part of my job when I did the testing .... nobody cared like I did once upon a time ....

I always wrote a blurb in the final print out referrring to this site, and how the 2.0L block was not commercially available in this chassis, anywhere in the world when it was produced.

So, for now, no issues with this accursed emissions testing process.

Nice work and great write up. I always enjoy your posts, they are very informative and well written.

If I ever had to go through all that for my car - I would part it out. :-? . I guess I'm spoiled here with no testing required; I've removed most of the emission pieces and run a 3" exhaust that is super loud.

Honestly, the test is super easy to pass. I ran my 63 as a 61 this year, and even with an improperly coded bin file for my 501 MAF swap, which caused my fuel trims to max out trying to pull fuel to hit stoich in closed loop, I still passed. A healthy catalytic converter is all you need, I'm not running any of the emissions equipment on my car. No EGR, no charcoal cannister, just a PCV and valve cover vent line both run to the intake, pre-turbo. My cat is a generic Magnaflow 3" high flow, and it works great.

The 10% ethanol they add to the fuel here helps too :).

I just checked the many documents and Elaws, and there appear to be two levels of ethanol mandates.

Low level 3-10 percent, minimum 5% compliance for all fuel from a company's stock in totality that is distributed. Some exemptions apply and move the formula around but that means having fuel supplied for off road, pre-80 vehicles and more.

High level 75-85 percent, so your labelled E85 seasonal blends.

From this, companies offer up whatever they feel like or can readily source and meet their criteria for minimum ethanol use.

I would assume ethanol does lower emissions, but with the blends it is added to, like MTbE, it's for emissions and not power. MoE poWwaaaah, cough cough wheeeeze!!!

I just go by what they say on the pumps :). I always do my tests with 87 in the tank and some stock plugs, since 87 is going to be easier to light off and get a complete burn, especially with the hotter plug. Ethanol helps get a more complete burn, since it's going to flash sooner and burn colder, even as an additive.

I may have missed it but I'm curious what method you used for shifter arm differences when swapping to the f5m33 from the KM210?

JNZTUNING.NET or similar website can acquire the bushings, as can a Mitsu dealer.

I ordered my bushings using information from ASA and the online version located at www.partsbase.org, and went onto AMAYAMA.com (Australian based but sourcing parts from Japan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE))
Bushings were pretty cheap, less than $2 each.

RTMRacing that I got my aftermarket brass bushings from, are a little more expensive, but with proper greasing, should outlast the car.

I had to use a rather potent air hammer and modified pokey bit to get the lock pin to come out of the shifter rod, to allow the shifter arms to be swapped, KM210 to the F5M33 transmission. Not a job for the faint of heart, as it's a rather brutal task that tests your nerves and as one would suspect the strength of the aluminum outer case, as you hold the shaft and hammer away. EEp.

I'm pretty sure that you air hammer the pin towards the top of the bellhousing, so without a radiator, you could do this in the car if need be. I know I took a pic of this.

Here is a blowup of the shifter assembly, disassembled:

Parts Base C53A Shifter Base Assembly

24594 part number will highlight all the shifter bushings in the pivot/gear selector mechanism.

There is however, one more bushing which is at the base of the pivot, as you will see in the posts above.

Got my fuel tank down, to install the Walbro 255HP.

It's been a work in progress for a couple of weeks now, as I take it in stages.

Could have hacked away and tossed it back in, but it's not how I roll.

Bye bye 94 Octane!

There are two fuel sending unit options in 1989. Picture below are both. Confirmed in ASA. One is quick disconnect (early style) meaning you don't have to remove the
lines down the front of the tank, and the other pictured in brilliant plating, is the one piece unit that likely most CSM's were equipped with; post turbo era.

Haha, all the gas went into the 'Baru. :)

It's still running on that gas now.

Paint should be well cured by the time this stuff gets put in place again.
