Probably a 'safety precaution' for a rolling chassis with no axles so the hubs don't somehow come out of the bearings. This was down the road from the Diamond star shootout, sporting the same 'safety precaution'. ![]() ![]() /Thread Hijack |

PMA nailed it, just keeping the front wheels on without axles |

Besides the vented rotors, is there and benefit to these over stock 4g15 brakes? Is there enough meat on those rotors to turn them again? Cant tell from the pics. Also, how good are the bearings? |

Now that you mention it I'm not sure if there is a difference or not. I was pretty sure that they were larger, I know that they BARELY cleared the 14" rims that were on the car when I got it. Can anyone chime in? The bearings are shot for sure and I'll mic the rotors to see if they are worth saving. |

The stock turbo front brakes are a world of difference in stopping power over the stock 1.5L non vented front brakes. Not just fade resistance because they're vented, but the larger diameter rotors and larger diameter caliper pistons all equal more stopping power. At one point I just upgraded the fronts and had stock drum rears and it was a very worthy upgrade with just the bigger fronts. I think they're really similar in size to the 1st gen DSM small brakes, single piston calipers are very similar too. You gotta think though, a lot of guys in DSM's upgrade to the twin piston setup, but we're dealing with a much lighter platform. I've never faded mine or had a issue, and I've done plenty of triple digit shutdowns. There have been several different mixed bag elantra based upgrades and such over the years, but these still are a worthy upgrade if you're staying captive rotor and like the idea of simply ordering parts for an 89 mirage turbo. |

Most of the time Rockauto has the bearings for these cars on sale. I would check there for cheap replacements. Be sure to search online for a 5% discount should you decide to order from them. It might pay to replace the rotors instead of turning them but that's up to you. |

Hey Bosco, sorry I'm late on updating the thread. The calipers have been sold. After I removed the calipers I found out the pads were toasted and the rotors were a hair above spec. One last turn and they may have lasted half the life of some new pads. |
