These were old and crusty too, I just put them in the blast cabinet and repainted them. Rockauto had the bearings super cheap, at least they did. Yes you hammer out the old race with a chisel and press the new one back in. Two for each hub.

Well OK! I got the new trans mission last weekend. I bought it off craigslist about an hour and a half away. Was "recently rebuilt for 500+ hp" but had no paperwork and was done by previous owner. Looked clean on the outside but not cleaned, if that makes sense. Went through gears fine and now play on input shaft so I got it.

That was yesterday about halfway done. Although I noticed when I went to switch the mount that was attached to the old tranny to the new one that it was flat and the tranny had a step in it...No wonder why I always had a hard time getting mounts lined up right when I disconnected one ughhh...

Image

So I took the one that came with the tranny and made it work. It was narrower than the one attached to the inner fender would accept so I had to grind it down a little to make it work. Also can anyone identify this ACT clutch?

As you can see the input shaft was leaking all over the place...

Call ACT and give them the product serial number you see on the sticker. Maybe they have some pointers to show what pressure plate that is barring info correlating to the sticker.

I have been in contact with them and they seem to not be able to identify by serial number lol. They said it looks like an xtreme or maxx xtreme. It looks different than the pictures on their site but I figure things might have changed in the design in a decade since the pressure plate was made in 2005 lol.

I identified a PP with ACT too and I gave them the numbers off the fingers on the PP diaphragm. They identified mine as a 2100.

Yeah he asked about that but I didn't notice any while snapping pics and the trans was in already when I emailed. Pulling the trans just to check clutch/pp doesn't sound like a great idea either lol. It's really no big deal I was just curious is all.

Oh on another note as I was getting ready to hook up the linkages I noticed the mounting brackets for the linkages were different so I swapped them only to find that that didn't work out to we'll because it kept me from getting into 1/3/5. No matter how I adjusted the linkages. I noticed the shift lever for forward and back was like 1/2 to 1 inch longer. Apparently the mounting bracket moved the linkages end to far forward so I couldn't get enough movement out of the linkages if that makes sense. Like that cable was bottomed out and couldn't be pulled back any further. So I put the shorter one back in and all was well again.

One on right is from the original trans and one on left is new trans. I would like to point out that original was from 90 gst and new was from 91 gst. Odd that they would change something like this.

So on my way to work today I got on it a little in 3rd and 4th and saw some smoke and smelled something weird. I thought it might have been the clutch slipping because of the input shaft on the old trans leaking. Got to work open the hood and see this...

Image

Dip stick popped out and shot oil all over the place. I did notice when I first got the car running oil pressure was kind of high like 80-90+ at idle while cold and I don't think it dropped much after that. The car still has the balance shaft too. The pcv valve is brand new and connected to the intake manifold still. The other vent is going to a vented catch can. I haven't done a compression test yet though. So I'll do that tonight or tomorrow morning. Ugh...
