Last video I have of it running FWD (hx40 lag monster.. non-shifting shifter cables.. etc)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVB3iO-z5Dc

Then I got talked into an AWD swap. With an 8.8. So that got started.. and after collecting dust in my "friend's" (i use that term loosely anymore) barn for the past ~4 years I finally went and retrieved my car.

Here's where it sat for those years:

Image

Good idea right

Image

Anyways shortly after the back end was framed in work stopped. But I had other things going on.. and lost interest and free storage is cool so there it sat.

Last weekend I finally went and got it

Walked in.. like a bomb went off:

Image
Image

Path cleared (and garage door being held open with an engine lift. that was fun):

Success:

New resting place for now until I clear room in my jammed garage:

Image

Cleaned up all the surface rust and threw some self etch on there and started cutting panels for the tunnel:

Image
Image

Picked up some sheet alum for the back two panels yesterday:

Image

This weekend the plan is to finish the tunnel and hopefully get the seat mounts (re)made. If time allows, get the alum cut and test fitted. Probably won't rivet/seam seal those down until I get the rear end cleaned up and painted and fully bolted in. It's nice being able to do that from inside the car vs. having to crawl underneath. Fuel cell mounting is already figured out. Need to finish welding in the main hoop for the cage and eventually get the door bars in. But once the floor is 100% in the car can go up on the lift to run new fuel and rear brake lines. Then the attention goes to the front of the car but I'm not looking too far ahead yet (punned)

Thanks for viewing my slideshow.

I've never seen a hatch that color. What fuel tank will you use?

Very nice work! Are those 3g eclipse wheels? They look good on there if so.

That's great! I love the pic of the messy shop oddly enough. I grew up on a farm in the midwest and have seen my share of extremely messy farm shops etc. For some reason I always see them as a gold mine! I'd love to spend a few hours rummaging through there seeing things that give me ideas on what to do with it. lol

Hah I've grown to hate that place. It's IMPOSSIBLE for me to do anything there. Need a 10mm socket? Oh ok let me dig for an hour. Horrible lighting, cant see anything. Don't even go there work on anything and leave with grease stains on your clothes... I can bitch about it for a while lol

Anyways. Got the car off the trailer and cleaned up the garage a bit so I could get it inside (rain kept stopping progress and that was getting annoying)

Image

Have to weld in the last panel for the tunnel, the outer 2 under the seats are done and are ready to be seam sealed and painted. This week I'm going to try and get the seats back in the car and get the aluminum cut to size. Also want to pull the rear end back out, clean it up and paint it, and put the diff cover back on. Then bolt that back in for (hopefully) the last time so I can seam seal/rivet the alum down and get the fuel cell in.

After all of that it's over to my buddies shop that has a lift I can put it up on to run fuel & brake lines!

Got the tunnel 'finished' and primed. Seat mounts started. Have to seam seal & paint still

Then it's time to cover this finally.. should be easy enough. Will cut the pieces but not attach yet. Have to take the rear end back out (hopefully) one more time.

That's how my shop looks during a build, shit everywhere! Drives me nuts because I can get OCD about clean floors. I'm digging the restructure of the floor to be flat.

With the new floor panels, you plan on welding them, riveting, or something exotic like nutserting them on?

That's a good question.. I was just planning on riveting/seam sealing and being done with it but I do have a riv-nut gun and a ton of riv nuts that I never used...

Not sure how I would seal it if I did go that route though. Trying to keep cabin noise down as much as I can at this point

Got the driver seat mounted (no pic)

Pulled the rear end out, got the trac-lock (or whatever) clip back in. Cleaned it up a bit and shot some paint on it
Image

Got a hood and bumper from national parts depot.. and learned why (maybe) the PO chopped the structural crap out of the old hood. The strut tower bar now hits the hood.. took it off and it closes nicely. Might try modding the hood just where the bar goes or something. Other than that not a bad deal for ~$250 shipped imo. New parts.

Pics and a link for the new bumper? I've been looking for a new one but couldn't find a company that still makes them.
