Well, I am almost done with the turbo kit. The car is running on bluetops, B16G w/internal gate, JDM D15B VTEC block, D16Z6 head, D16Y8 intake manifold, XS Power exhaust manifold, CX Racing FMIC, piping kit, BOV, 3" cat-back, and a self-socketed P28 OBD1 ecu with OBD2 to OBD1 stepdown harness. It's a stock weak bottom end so I'm limited to how much boost I can run right now but my basemap from Chris Harris at Xenocron is tuned on Crome and the engine still has the stock Honda MAP sensor and the Honda MAP sensor can only read up to 10 lbs of boost so until it's dyno tuned boost cut is set to 8 psi. I built this engine and it's got some really weak stock Honda pistons and rods so I bought a spare D16Z6 (92-95 Civic 1.6L SOHC VTEC) that I plan to build with Vitara pistons and Eagle H beam rods for the eventual boost increase. I don't have a downpipe on it yet but I have a polished 2G FWD downpipe and oxygen sensor housing on the way and a test pipe so I'm hoping to make that work with the 3" exhaust that I put on it. Right now it's fast once it hits VTEC crossover (around 4500 RPM) and pulls all the way to 8500RPM but it hasn't been tuned yet and it's no 4G63...but it has relevance here because I built it, and it has alot of Mitsu parts on it. Anyway, I just figured that y'all would appreciate a good build.

I didn't even post pics of the exterior. It's a 97 Civic EX Coupe which means that it has all of the options. It's New Vogue Silver Metallic and has JDM black housing headlights, JDM tails, mesh grille, and JDM front bumper. I have some really clean black 16" wheels with polished lips but the only tires that I had laying around for them was a set of 205/60/16s and they rub and look like shit so I took them back off and put the steelies back on until I can afford to buy my 205/40/16s. The car has alot of Bondo on the rear quarters and fenders because the kid that I got them from had alot of experiments that didn't turn out so well. I have a brand new set of stainless steel M3 fenders that I have to paint match and install and I HAVE to redo the steel in the quarters. I've been focused on the engine and work so I haven't had the time to get any bodywork done. Anyway...

I dig the project. I think 4G63 swaps in Hondas are stupid. If you tune it right, it won't blow up that quickly, and Honda transmissions are WAY better than anything Mitsu has to offer. Plus, parts are cheaper and more readily available.

Trust me, I've seriously considered swapping in a 4G63t but in the end this is a budget build...an extremely tight budget build, so I'm ordering parts here and there and working with what I've got or have access to. I really like the response and power of the B16G but I seriously cannot find a downpipe that'll fit the 2 bolt O2 housing and be able to make the bends to go under the hump in the oilpan and still be able to mate up to the rear of the exhaust. I've been playing with which turbo and wastegate I really want on the car and I got a screaming deal from a friend for a 38mm Turbosmart wastegate with an 8 lb spring, a cast iron manifold, a 3" downpipe made for my car, and the cherry on the cake...a 50 trim Garrett T3 along with all of the bolts and fittings for...wait for it...$350! The reason he sold it all to me so cheap is because he's stepping into the S2000 world and he's getting out of the Civic game, plus he knows how long I've been slobbering over his setup. So I ordered a new nylon braided drain line, drilled and rapped my aluminum oilpan for a 10an fitting, and I'm going to set the B16G and the T25 off to the side in case something happens to the Garrett. Anyway, I'll keep y'all updated on this build, it's going to get pretty crazy after I get the Z6 built and installed in the car. It moves pretty good with the 16g on it, I can't wait to see what it can do with a 50 trim...1.5L of POWER! LOL Thanks for reading guys.

Yeah I have a D16Z6 in my garage that I got from a guy that was doing an engine swap in his 94 Civic. He sold me the complete engine and an automatic transmission for $125 with nothing wrong with it. I couldn't pass it up. I have a brand new MLS head gasket and a brand new set of ARP headstuds for it as well but before I put it in I want to get some forged internals for it and see if I can get 400 whp out of the little single cam before I move on to the B20/VTEC DOHC swap. That's a B20 block out of a JDM CRV and a DOHC VTEC GSR head out of an Integra or JDM Civic Type R with the 50 trim turbo. That combination with a good tune should be good for 350ish HP with a good tune. I know quite a few guys that have done it, even on stock internals. Hell, Bisi from Bisimoto has an old Civic with a D16Z6 turbo that puts out 700AWHP and that's crazy for a 1.6 SOHC. For me, what it's all going to come down to is the tuning, and I have a very good Honda tuner. I would be happy to see 225 whp on stock internals and 400 whp with forged internals out of the little guy.
