well ive finally decided to start this one, ive had trouble deciding what to do with this car for years.
its been running on 3 cylinders forever. i could fix the burnt valve, or i could swap it with whatever combo. i decided to bolt up a stock 4g63t to the stock 3 speed autoImage

I'll be very interested to see how that 3spd. Auto holds up to the 4G63's power. Neat project!

big snag-
i did not realize that the g32b and even 4g15 use a 5 bolt crank
now i need to find a 6 bolt n/a flex plate, and spacer plates and crank bushing

i can order all these parts new, it seems. pretty cheap too
i will just keep going forward with the swap. maybe i can get it conpleted before the parts get here!
(it usually takes two weeks, im in canada!

im just going to get it running with no intercooler, and stock everything

late night last night at buddys dsm heaven pulling a 6 bolt na flex plate!
worked perfectly!
lookit that, the stock rad fits!!!
not much left to do, excited!

now i have decided to use an in line pump, theres a perfect spot to put it, its certainly the easiest way.
i dont know if its the best way

first day driving it around, and here i am sitting in a parking lot waiting for a boost haha
i guess the alternator isnt working
i did test it when i first started the car thus morning. oh well

haha the alternator plug fell out. it doesnt snap in, ill have to get a new one.
car runs like it has major vacuum leaks.(idles way too fast) max boost is 5 psi and it takes forever to get there. (i used a very cracked turbine housing, just temporary) feels like the tranny slips a lot under the power. it only seems to wirk well at very little throttle too.
i am very confused. it should just pull like a monster. i think there may be a fuel related problem.
or it should slip like a monster. i would think it would burn the tires right off in first.
maybe ill just have to steal the wideband from my other colt to see whats going on

Are you running the factory auto tranny? I could see that slipping all day as it wasn't designed for that level of power/torque.

Agreed, these things fail/slip with the tiny engine attached to them.

yeah its weird. it doesnt really seem like its slipping though. it feels like the engine is just not making any power. it runs MINT under super low throttle. , iit feels like 100 hp at 1/8 throttle, but if i honk on it it feels like the engine is not getting fuel or something. it doesnt miss, it just acts like im pressing the brakes at the same time as the gas.
i have no experience with auto trannies. i really just thought it would be fun to try. i want to blow this bitch up proper.
i need to do some basic troubleshooting.
it also kind of feels like the slipping the tranny does is horrible as far as spooling up a turbo goes, would be great for saving fuel

at this point running a 14 second pass on the stock auto isnt seeming very possible

yeah so this is how it looks now
interestingly, the f5m21 (cable trans) from my 1993 colt, is a direct fit in this car, using the stock axles (1980 axles)
yeah i know it cant handle the power, right!
well its completely free, i had it in my shed, it has a mint clutch so i might as well get some use out of it!
i fabricated my own clutch pedal, used a dsm pedal. the car already has provisions for a clutch, couldnt have been any easier.
used complete shifter assy i pulled from an awd talon a year ago
i will NEVER throw anything out ever again!
i tossed the cable style pedal from my 93 colt, i bet it would have been a close/ or direct fit!

i have a turbo tranny here, but dont want to spend any money on this thing right now, i woild need a clutch and flywheel.

but the real hurdle with the turbo trans is obviously the axles. the stock axles (1980) would fit the turbo trans (sorta) its like a colt and the colt axle stub is the same spline but its shorter, so it wouldnt snap in proper. the 1980 axles are too weak to use with a turbo trans anyways
the hub is the same splines as 89-99 talon, colt, whatever its all the same. but the diameter where the hub seal goes is smaller
more importantly the splines on the axle side is different, so you cannot just knock it off with a hammer and reinstall on a dsm axle like you do with a colt. the way i plan to do this is the stick dsm axle ends(hub side) in a lathe and machine them down to 1980 colt size. it would be extremely easy to do. the dsm axles would each need to be shortened at least an inch, and resplined.

There are actually guys over on the mirage forums that have used the f5m21 trans with their 4g63t swaps and didn't have any issues with it holding the power. Guess only time will tell.

yeah, it was in my other 63t colt before i awd swapped it. the clutch and trans was working well with 240ish bhp. this is only 140 or so right now by my math. would hold up forever, but i probably wont be keeping it at this level for long

it has the stock 1 1/4 exhaust and no intercooler and 6 psi. and yes it does rip pretty good even though the power is super low

maybe in a year or two ill awd swap this one too
