Picked up my vatted and coated tank (to never have to worry with rust again) today. Sad thing is I have to wait till sunday for the epoxy coat to cure so no gas in it till then. In the mean time I'm installing KYB GR-2's that my friend had, fixing a bad fuel housing (best non rusted one I could find), and I'm hoping to fire her off sunday and have her ready to go to get the AC fixed by tuesday. Getting uber close on the rally!

Awesome man! I'm sure it will be a little emotional to hear her roar to life again. I think its awesome that you saved this car and put so much time and effort into it.

I'm beyond stoked, but still have a ton of things left to do before the rally. Taking her in Tuesday for AC... hoping that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

AC works! Picked it up from my friends at Mitsu today. I had them look at the brakes as the pedal was squishy and I couldn't get it to go away. Turns out the brake booster is the issue. I overnight-ed one from rock auto, so this weekend will be interesting to say the least. Have about 140 miles on the fresh engine, and I clay bar'd it tonight. Still have wax and buff :)

We waxed on it tonight, the paint is too neglected to get very good, but she shines up enough.

Rock auto sent the wrong brake booster, so off to the yard first thing tomorrow for one...

To recap this thread, I made the Rally!
Image

Car did very well considering how long it had been down. Had a few issues, that I still need to fix.

Car ran hot once, fan switch went out, I jumpered it with a paper clip (while the Smoking Tire Video'd me on side of a mountain overlook). The Trans keeps sticking in 2nd, but only after a downshift, no TCU codes. Possible solenoid issue. Brakes are still spongy after the brake booster swap. Plan on changing the master next. AC went out on the last day of the rally. Considering the car sat for 8 years, I really cant complain!

Finished reading through the rest of this thread....Natedog, you did well getting this car ready to roll again. Anything that sits for a long time takes a long time to fine comb through, even the rare low-mileage cars like this.
