Well there is no easy way for me to write this. However I want the story to be told, so here it goes...

About two months back I lost my best friend to a heart attack. He was 51 years old, was an avid DSM enthusiast, a machinist (did the air filter housing for my 72 Colt), gun lover, motor cycle rider, HAMB radio operator and all around great guy. He was a cross between a father figure and a friend to me. He had a larger than life personality, and I enjoyed listening to his stories about life, road trips, racing, and the advice he always had for me. He worked at Chrysler for 25 years, Ironically working on the electronics for many of the vehicles that litter most of our yards/driveways.

Some years back he bought this car online from Colorado with a "bad" transmission. He flew to Colorado, bought the car, installed a new TCU (transmission control unit) and drove the car home to Alabama. Some time later he was down in his back and paid someone to do a timing belt, they botched the job, and the car jumped time, at only 65k miles! He was so upset the car has sat since. The car came with emails from the previous owner, where they were working out the deal, the Colorado plates, and Misc receipts and such. I'm planning to get it back up and running, and as close to stock as possible (I think it is bone stock other than HKS 264 cams). I refer to it as a she, because he always named his cars... This one is Candy, he ever stamped the name on the key... She's an Auto AWD, so I think she's pretty rare given the mileage. I'll be yanking the head to inspect the damage in the coming weeks. I couldn't stand the thought of someone picking her up to make a "race car" so I brought her home today...

It cleaned up really well from the pics you showed me! I'm eager to see what you end up doing with this one

^ its amazing what a hot wash/rinse at the car wash will do. I'm hoping she looks ever better after a hand wash, buff/wax.

You should definitely add a ForcedFour shift box and a 3g eclipse GT shifter!!! Still stock looking but shifting way better when you are on it with his memory eggin' you on.

I pulled the plugs today, looks promising. At least no major internal damage.

I vote for some factory option 17" 2gb Talon rims for the OEM+ look.

That's awesome to hear it will live on through you. Also i'm a little partial to red 1gb Talons as my first dsm was one, but that thing looks nice!

I know I would want my DSM to go to a close friend who would care for it if I was gone, but at the same time, I realize none of them would want to deal with it, so you're doing a very good deed Mr. Nate!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm just doing what he would do for me. It's pretty overwelming at times, but we do what we can.

Checked the compression today, the numbers all are over the board. Also the oil pump just doesn't feel right to me, so I'll be pulling the engine soon...

I'll probably sit the trans out the bottom, and pull the engine out the top this week sometime. However my next conundrum is what to do... I mean this car is as stock as your going to find one. I fear the engine is junk as the turbo has massive shaft play, and the oil pump doesn't spin freely. Also finding another stock turbo for an Auto in good shape could prove difficult. I'd love to keep the thing original as I can, or at least with the stock block and head... What do you guys think?

I would keep it stockish, but I would put a 14b on it.
