Was looking for a decent car to drive last winter while the Sapporo hibernates and the Starion is still under the knife and came across this Colt on craigslist unbelievably less than a mile from my house. It was bought off of its original old lady owner two years ago and the previous owner drove it sparingly while going over all the little things that needed attending to.

So here she is in all her 100% original metallic rootbeer brown 55k mile beauty.....

That's pretty cool! What are your plans for it?

Other than fix the rust up I am not so sure yet!

I have a few questions I have for the FWD Colt community. Trying to determine exactly what I want to do with this car. I like the idea of keeping it close to the original concept of the COlt, no AWD swaps or Turbos, but I would like to make it a little more fun to drive with a manual swap at the least.

1. Does anyone have any thoughts on suspension? Any thing from a later model colt I could adapt to this car? Springs and camber plates specifically. I just bought a set of old school JDM wheels and don't want to mount them until I get it to sit right.

2. Transmission. I have a few thoughts on what can be done. I am looking for someone that might have a set up for the factory twin stick? I have located a transmission from a local guy that has a stash of parts from his Colt rally car days in the early 80's but he does not have the shifter mechanism, pedal set up etc...

3. I do have a '95 Mirage with the 1.8 4G93 16v and have heard thats a pretty straight forward swap. Any one here have experience with that. Wondering what I might run into if I just swap the whole motor/trans combo into the Colt. Driveshaft lengths, motor mounts?

Thanks in advance guys!

So I scored these on Yahoo Japan.

Pretty rare set of JDM wheels made by Fortran. 13x6 +5 fronts and 13X6.5 +12 rears. Was the most agressive set of wheels that would fit in the measurements f the Colt.

Finally had some free time this weekend to test fit them...

Front is not going to be an issue, clearance to spare which was my biggest worry. The rears are going to be close, but I think with the right tire and a little roll of the inner fender, we should be in business!

That looks like it's going to poke out quite a bit...

Looks it, but shouldn't. The suspension is at full drop in that picture to, so when its compressed the top will go in a little.

i dont know if you read my thread but the cable trans from a 4th gen mirage/colt 92-95 is an extremely easy swap.
did you notice it already has provisions for a clutch pedal? take a look under there, theres a threaded rod for the clutch pedal, and a rubber hole where the cable goes
i wasnt going to hunt for a clutch pedal, so i just modified one i had laying around.

i would think the f5m21 is a lot better than the twin stick. it has a nice tall ratio, extremely common, but the twin stick is likely more fun to drive

if you want fun to drive, swap in a 4g63t
my car is incredible
