Goal achieved. My pile is now the highest WHP stock LS1 powered car, ever (according to the internet) 872whp

Image

20psi spike, settled at 19. Running lean up top because, well I have 2 fuel pumps I pulled out of a random parts box lol.

At the crank, that's likely near or over 1000hp. In 'Merica, they say that FOUR DIGITS. FOUR FUK'N DIGITS!

Video to come, hope it comes out because it sounded unreal. So unreal I lifted early because I was convinced it was going to pop lol. I will likely toss one or two 340's in the tank before I make a pass at full Geechie. It made 814@17 psi with steady AFR, so that will do for now!

Its official. Juan is here!

I've been calling the car Juan since I picked it up. The state would not give me LSJUAN, so this had to do. I dig it!

So I got lucky and had the opportunity to attend a track rental this week. Tossed everything in the car and headed out on a hot, humid day. I’d have to say I am very happy with my first outing in this thing!

First 2 passes I just rolled out to check AFRs, and set my boost stages. She was running a bit rich, but rich is safe and I had no way to log or change anything, so I set my 2rd stage at 15 psi (spikes to 16, and settles)
3rd pass on my street tires just letting the clutch out netted a 11.5@141.6mph Happy with that. On goes the slicks.

1st pass, I just went down the track to see how the car felt as it was my first time these tires I bought used….felt great. Second pass I wanted to see how it felt in boost. Rolled out and mowed through some gears-felt great.
3rd pass-I let the clutch our and immediately went for it. As a reminder the car has stock NA rear end, so I wanted to try and not break it that day.
10.5@145.7mph with a 1.8 60 foot. Love it! I started the pass @ 230 degrees of coolant temp, so timing was down and fuel was up. 8psi 1,2, and 3rd switching to 15psi in 3rd.

This was with 400lbs on meat in the car (me 180 and my buddy 220) so really I could not be happier! DA was 2185-90 degrees Humidity was 85% according to accuweather!

Sadly, after this pass my buddy broke his car, so we loaded him up in the trailer and packed up to head home. What may have been most impressive for this trip was the drive home-there was a bad accident and it was rush hour. A 45 minute drive turned into 3+ hours in 90+ degree heat, high humidity, with stop and go driving. We were miserable inside the car but the car did great!
Here’s the video. Thanks to Miguel Lopez for putting it together.

Some things I learned –

Similar to high HP FWD 5 speed cars I have owned in the past, more hook=more MPH. This goes against conventional auto V8 wisdoms, but when you are literally spinning though the 1/8th, you are losing time opportunity to accelerate, and losing mph

I need a lower gear. The car fell out of boost worst going into 5th, and since its inherently weaker due to its size, I don’t want to race the car in 5th if I can avoid it. Also, if I could be in my power band more of the pass, it will get significantly faster with no change in power.

I need more cooling capacity. Even though it was HOT, no pass was stared cooler than 225 degrees, and even with a 15 minute cool off, it simple ran hot all day. It got as hot as 240-250 on the way home in traffic. I am using a radiator I found laying in my parts pile-time to upgrade!

I cant WAIT to see what she does when I can apply full power, and keep it in the power band longer with a better rear gear! This car has already seen a lot of “use” this year and has been great so far! More to come…

So, I rigged up the random Summit tach I found in my box-o-stuff, and it works perfectly. I am not sure how, but my VDO tach is toast. Eventually I will replace it with something that fits nicely in the cluster. For now, its 100% better than nothing

(Dont mind the mess, I had everything apart checking wiring for the gauges)

Taking it out for some test hits and see how it does on the 4th to 5th shift if I actually take it to redline in 4th, now that I wont be guessing and know where redline is LOL

Between wedding and 2 kids B day parties… I had some time to take the car on a drive to get groceries…..I was just sure to take it to the store a few exits away. 

The good news-the BoBo Tach works GREAT! No drop in RPM, no erratic signal-nothing. So I would assume that the signal coming from the ECU is good-and my VDO tach is junk.

Bad news-I noticed a little smoke on the way home after a pull. Could not tell if it was on decel or WOT. The car has NO catch can or evac of any kind, and that has solved a lot of issues like this in the past-so that will be the next mod. Car felt strong and was not running hotter than normal-so I won’t worry about the motor just yet.

Next, did some test pulls and shifted when I “thought” I needed to shift. Using my phone in a very sketchy manner, I found out that I short shifter 3-4 at 5600, and 4-5 at 5400!!!!! No wonder the car fell on its face on the track!!! Evidently I have to calibrate my ear’s tachometer.

The best news-winding 4th to redline netted very good transient response in the shift to 5th gear. It still takes more time to recover than the first 3 shifts, but it was 100% better than it was on track. I am hopeful what with no other changes beyond a proper 4-5 shift that I will pick up some MPH and ET. Once That is sorted, I can try to hit my 2nd boost stage earlier and/or turn up the 2nd stage boost level.

I have some things to do before my next track visit, but I am excited at the prospects of improving the performance with no additional $$$$ added!

I think it will go 9's @ 150+ with easy if I didn't have to shift into 5th. Car falls on its face in 4th gear. That will come with a 8.8 Rear swap an 3.27 gears.... Really, I think it will get there even with the stock Rx7 rear 4.10, but it will take me driving the piss out of it, and hanging 4th till redline before I hit 5th

Thanks. Once I can ramp in some big boost, it will go much faster.

Some tire pressure testing with the street tries. This is 15psi-3rd gear. Don't mind the dirtiness of the car giddy laughter-was in the middle of ripping the car apart chasing the tach issue....

And a Trip to Mexico against a GT500. Built, Whipple 2.9L and a 50+shot on E85. Im at 12psi and pump gas.

One of the top Media guys in the DSM community took great video of my junk at the shootout. I know I'm working to get the car down the track, but this looks rediculous lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNtPc1I ... e=youtu.be

This shows just how bad the car was fuel sloshing the first few passes-and you can hear me shut it down up top on the 10.3 run.

Its all learning-but I've got a lot of work to do to actually use the power the car is making.
