Zip tie racing Double Pumper LOL

Image

pressure tested, and installed.

Actually more or a pain than any other car I have built one for due to Mazda's great fuel tank Baffle.

Investment=$0. Car had a 255 in it, and I pulled one out of a dusty box from a DSM part out many moons ago. A drill, welder, and a dream-and we are in business! Wires with 12 GA wire and a 40 amp relay, we should be good to 800+ RWP

Installed with a used rising rate regulator,

and we are 99% ready for some baseline runs. If everything falls into place we will be on the dyno Friday night. :)

I have to start this with a big thanks to Erik at http://backstreetper.com/ for the time, knowledge, and super safe tune. I will have zero hesitation laying into this thing every time I get it out.

Well after fixing some stuff, finding more broken stuff, and adding more zip ties, we managed to make some power pulls.

On gate-8psi-540whp

at 14.8 psi (202 logged KPA) it made 736whp/654 trq. Full spool happened around 4800 in 4th (410 rear gear/T56). Honestly surprised how much HP per PSI this think was picking up. It was already a long night and we had not drank enough to throw 20+psi at it, so we called it a night. But, I think the stock LS1 record would have been in serious jeopardy!

The car comes on boost like its making 1000whp. It runs and sounds ridiculous. I am 100% happy with the outcome, and still have a lot of cleaning up and improving to do with the bay and the harness. This is still a 100% bone stock Ls1, so I think it would be good to shoot for 850+ when I install my "trash-Cam" and a set of valve springs.

Videos soon-my go pro died but I think Jerry got a few at full song.

It's seriously incredible that you're making that much power on a stock LS1 bottom-end. They usually puke their guts around 500hp. Are you running the stock rear-end in that thing?

I'm telling you-if we did more shots of scotch, we would have took it to 20psi that night LOL.

100% unopened long block from 1999. Rear end is not only stock, but a NA LSD!! LOL. (the Driveshaft was made for an NA rear-I have spares and (2) TII Rears). the 410 ratio is freaking killing me though.

Video! From my buddies phone. There is some Go-Pro stuff he will try and get up soon. This was at around 12 psi. My excitement was from raising the boost with vacuum T's and having it hold steady till redline (yes, I forgot to bring a boost controler)

Hahaha, this car is such a ticking time bomb, but that's awesome. You'll definitely be happier with a taller rear-end ratio. My buddy had a S14 240SX with a LS swap, and he had a 4.10 rear end in it, and it was basically constant shifting. The T-56 is much happier with a 3.2x rear, but I don't think you can get anything that tall that will bolt in to the FC. I think the Turbo II cars are 3.90?

I think its the other way around TII is 4.10 and NA LSD is 3.90

They make bolt in rear end kits, but they are all $$$

Ahh, I gotcha. The Turbo rear-end is a lot stronger, apparently.

Yes, they have gone low 8's stock rear (on stock suspension also) with a rotary but like all things I am sure it does not like the torque.

Spring is here! So its back to work.

When I got the car, NO gauges worked. I now have Tach, Fuel level, Volts, Water temp, and oil pressure. The Speedo is a lost cause for now for several reasons. Also eliminated some plugs and loose ends from the OE harness I was not using-still needs a LOT of cleaning up wiring wise, but admittedly that's not my forte. Installed an AEM WB I had laying around-temporarily lassoed it to the boost gauge until I build a panel to move them down to the HVAC area.

I also wanted to tackle the exhaust. I had Idea from twin 3inch electric cut outs inch dumps to a single quiet 2.5, to IMSA style rear fender exits. But, I wanted to use as much of what I had as possible, but still be efficient for my long term goals, and keep it in the budget. Well, out came this.

Twin 3's into a full 4 inch flop a dop pipe.

Image
(Mock up)

Total cost- $28. It fits ridiculously well, and the flex hose is not nearly as flexible as you may think, so it worked out absolutely perfect.

What I love about it,

1)Its 80% scrap-Only thing I purchase was the 4inch flex pipe, and a 4inch band clamp, and gas for the welder.

2) love the way it fits-nice and tight-

3) I can be off the car in 5 Minutes or less. I love having easy access to troubleshoot parts or quick fixes at the track. This will also allow me to take it off in segments on the dyno to see if its a restriction when I turn up the Jam.

Hopefully it sounds as good as other 4 inch systems I have done. Kind of an empty trashcan aggressive situation that would be augmented by the cam that's yet to go into the car.

Next-275 Micky T's for the 17s, tint, and good weather!

Thanks to my GTR buddy Matt who donated 2 china Purple gates to the car because, well he just had them laying around (no I am not kidding) and it completed the twins theme. Thanks Matt!

Image

As for the Drag radials-Love em'! Dead hooks in 2nd on Gate (8psi, Mid 500's HP) when it used to spin hard through 4th! Now goes dead-straight when in it. Needs a little tweaking but I am super happy that I can actually now USE the car lol.

Next "round" of upgrades was installing a solenoid so I can have on the fly boost control. Its been my ghetto traction control method for years, and this solenoid was int he throw away bin at a local shop back in 05 LOL. Stage one is Gate, Stage 2 is whatever I set my Hallman at.

Image

Image

Works Wonderfully! With some heat in the tire, I can 90% hook 15psi in 3rd, and 17psi in 4th. On a cold tire though, its just paints the ground at 17psi-even pedaling 4th gear! Not sure how much she is making at 17psi, but fruit and banana it felt nasty. :)

Next up- real intakes!

Test hits at 15 psi on a cold tire. Make those Micky T's work! You can get a good idea of how responsive it is too-its not laggy in the least bit.
