Drove it on speed density today, or more precisely, Swede Density. A member of the DSMECU.com forum by the name of Kaxlon has made some very significant changes to the stock ecu code and created a vastly superior form of speed density. He's from Sweden, so...

He's removed all of the MAF code, and is running pure SD/VE mapping, unlike Jackal/Werewolf, and DSMLink, who both use the MAF code for their fuel calculations. Not saying it's wrong, just saying it's completely different :). There are a TON of extra goodies too, like proper spark cut for true anti-lag, cyclical idle, two-step, 3D boost control table, and the auto-tuning app is almost ready. It runs in the background, takes info from an AFR map set up in SwD, compares that to the wideband data, and changes the map on the fly. It's pretty friggin cool, and will soon see the light of day :). He's got a bunch of youtube videos (look up Kaxlon) that show everything.

He's recently moved the fuel resolution from 8bit to 16bit, which makes everything a LOT more precise, and I could feel it while tuning today. It was super responsive to changes made in the fuel table, and was idling at 14.5:1 without any trouble. The spool-up of my little 14b was insane compared to the MAF code. It easily came on a couple hundred RPM sooner, and surprised the hell out of me, lol.

I'm on the hunt for some 205/50 15s for my the rims I got from Flyin' eagle, can't wait to put them on :).

KYBs are in, and front springs are minus one coil ;).
I dig the way it sits now, and I doubt I'll go any lower. It rides pretty well too, which is good because the roads out here are crap. Shortly after putting the suspension in, the ancient battery kicked it, so a new one went in. A front caliper started dragging really badly on the way home too, which resulted in some impromptu parking lot repairs. It's amazing what you can do with a tire iron and a multi-tool, if you are desperate, lol. The smoke show was INSANE.

All in all though, it was a great day :).

Man...I need a cupholder, bad! I went out at lunchtime today and decided to stop at Starbucks. Had to drive back to work with one hand, which isn't hard, but dangit...I wanted to put my coffee down, it was HOT!

First tank of gas: 9.5L/100km (~24mpg). I think I'm having too much fun with part-throttle boost, lol. I know I can do better than that :).

Tip: The 3G/Evo MAF is NOT a direct swap over, no matter how much anyone says. My fuel trims are maxed out pulling fuel. I've had to do some significant tuning to the MAF curve to get everything to line back up. I think it's got a lot to do with the way the later mitsu ecus integrate the MAF data into their coding. The 2G MAF isn't as troublesome in that regard. I've almost got it back into line though, so my fuel economy should improve :). Now part-throttle boost isn't 10:1, but closer to 11.5:1 :).

PO's suck.
I've been having issues with my driver's front caliper binding up. When it happens, I have to pull over, crack the bleeder to relieve the pressure, and then it's all good again. Well, yesterday we put it up on the hoist and cleaned/lubed all the calipers (had a seized rear too, apparently), and decided to throw on the replacement GT calipers I have. In the middle of all this, the tech at the shop (who has a brain full of obscure car knowledge, and is a picky MFer) looks over and says "those rotors are too small, GT Turbo ones are bigger".

Huh?

Sure enough, the pads are ridged because they're too tall for the rotor...WHICH IS FROM AN ELANTRA! :evil: . The PO put elantra rotors on, but used the GT calipers/carriers/pads. I wanted to curse his existance at that point. I have some GT rotors/knuckles/etc, but they were at home, so we had to de-ridge the pad and put it all back together. It is a lot better now, and I guess I'll have a good reason to install my GT Brembos...but DAMMIT! What else am I going to find on this car?

Just like with DSMs, our CSMs usually pass through a hackjob owner or two before they reach someone that does it all the right way. That's a pretty good catch too!

The braking, while not as good as it will be with the larger rotors, is a LOT more consistent now. I actually find it way better, now that the pads are clamping the rotors on top too, lol.

Today I finished my Hyundai smoothie cover swap. I kinda like it :).

Gas was at 154.9 for 94 Octane today. Sigh ....
How's your fuel economy now?

Soon to improve. It was at 8.5L/100km at last check. I've recently added a WBO2 closed loop patch to the black box ecu I'm using, and it's working great! My narrowband was targeting stoich at idle, but slightly richer than 0.5v at cruise, so my wideband was reading 14:1 on the highway. I'll be filling up tomorrow and recording my economy :).

...the driver's side caliper is still locking up, sigh. It's got to be a collapsed line or something like that, so I've got a set of stainless braided hose on the way. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to get the larger rotors and new lines swapped on. The rotors are on some spare knuckles, with good bearings, so it shouldn't be too tough. Fingers crossed, anyway.

An Evo 8 MAF showed up today too, so as soon as I get a clutch, I'll be ready to enjoy the s16G I've got waiting in the wings :).

Stainless brakelines installed in front, got lucky too...didn't break a single line. The PO was obsessed with undercoating, so everything is disgusting, but at least nothing is seized.

It's also wheel day! :)
