screw u lol.. I failed again yesterday for the 7th time.. was failing the idle test..had the bad piston fixed it.. passed idle with flying colors..now failed the roller test ugggg :(.... going to put in 3 gallons of gas today.. add 1 gallon of e 85 and prey for the best... (brand new tank and filter when I put the car together..so not worried about junk build up)...

for a free car I sure am pissed off with this more than any other car ive had..was so close to calling it quits on this thing last night.. then I slept on it...cant get rid of a csm..not gonna happen lol.

The saving grace here is that they only do the two-stage idle for pre-97 cars now. No rollers anymore, so it's really easy to pass if you've got a catalytic converter still. Keep trying man, it'll happen. It's been two years of work for me, lol.

I love Rockauto. Even with the exchange, it's waaaaaaaaay cheaper than buying local. I got F&R KYB GR-2s for $141 CAN, including shipping! I should have them by friday.

I also splurged on a passenger side axle, since I think mine is completely wrong. The axle nut is 36-38mm, and I had to get a 3/4" drive socket and a 1/2" drive adapter to get it off. I have a horrible vibration under acceleration, and left turns at speed, and when I pulled the boot off, it looked like the joint itself was jammed at the bottom of the cup. The needle bearings were also pressed as close to the center as possible. I never experienced binding, but something just doesn't make sense.

Emissions testing: passed! 2.0 at 1.6 emission standards :).
Safety: passed :).

Monday it's getting insurance, and as of tuesday it will be road-legal and ready to go. I'm so stoked!

Any advice? I would appreciate since I'm getting my first emission with the 4g63 swap this year and I better be prepared

I'm afraid I don't really have any useful advice. The engine is a completely stock 2.0, it's got a new 3" catalytic converter, and it's running on a mostly-stock ecu. I drove it for half an hour before the test, to get the cat up to operating temp, but outside of that it was mostly just crossed fingers and prayers to the car gods, lol.

I guess I will do the same lol, I'm pretty sure you turned the boost all the way down right? I'm running 2g Maf+560cc on stock ECU, will see what happens until then, congratulations hehe

I'm running wastegate pressure right now. Our test is done without rollers, so there's never any load, so there's no boost :).

Just measured the compressed length of the axle I think might be bad...24". That's a DSM one, and it's .5" too long! The compressed length of the GT Turbo axles is 23.675", and the base colt 4g15 has 23.5". That's what's causing my vibration issue! :D
Ordered a proper empi axle last night, so I'm very stoked right now :).

Yeah, if anyone ever asks if they can use the 1G DSM AWD axles, I'm gonna go and say no. I have had a nasty rattle/vibration under load and left turns ever since I have had the car, and have run myself stupid trying to fix it. I eventually just pulled the pass axle and checked the joints. While I was on that, I decided to measure it...24". TOO LONG. It's a 1G pass axle, and there's even a point on the inside of the inner cv cup that is grease free because the shaft was fully pressed against the 'bottom', keeping the grease away from that area.

I got an Empi colt turbo axle from rock auto, and just got back from a dark, blizzardy test drive (go all-season tires! Hello torque-steer!), and the noise is gone. I'm so stoked. The car is fully ready for duty now, and is insured/safetied/emissions tested.

Now...WHERE THE F**K IS SPRING! :D.

Ok, spring isn't here yet...but my car is out. Today I drove it, legally, to the gas station for some supreme, and then a cruise around the county. Life is good :).

After a weekend of driving, it's been trouble free and I've been pretty happy. I think my valve cover is cracked slightly, because oil keeps appearing in the plug valley (new oil cap and gasket) in the side near the timing belt. It's not very much oil, but it's there.

I also have to say...I don't like the GT seats. I really need to sit lower, or alter the height of the seat in the back. It feels too 'flat'. If I could find some cheap evo seats, I'd go with those, but I may just try to alter what's there. I will NEVER run chinese-clone aftermarket seats, since I have seen what happens in a crash.

I'm pretty sure Dsm axles can be used with elantra control arms. I do know that dsm and elantra axles are the same lenght
