This car was bought by a friend of mine who wanted to get back into Mitsubishis but with something different. I had seen this car , and three other Scummit vans, sitting in an old man's yard a long time ago so I directed him to buy it for a whopping $400. The old man had put in a Galant 2.4l as the OE 2.4l had snapped the timing belt. I don't know what he goofed up but something isn't right and the trans has to come down. His build thread is here: viewtopic.php?t=34466 He never did the work and needed something to drive so I traded him a running '88 Honda CRX that had some after market parts. Since his pics are broken due to the gallery not being up I took my own! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I scored some mud flaps off a Honda Civic RT4WD(fairly rare, only around 5,000 registered in the U.S.) that say "4WD" on the back, and fit super nice! ![]() ![]() The fronts say "Honda", which I can remove, but do not fit so well: ![]() The plan is to drive the van for the winter then put on my s16g and top-bottom intercooler and piping come spring when the sedan is decked out with all it's new parts. I have no qualms with rocking the 2.4 SOHC, I just have no clue what to do with a 4gXX that has a distributor. HAHA |

Dropped the trans outta this beast today. Took me two hours using hand tools and was by FAR the easiest automatic AWD transmission removal I have ever done. These cars have so much room under the hood... The old man that did the engine swap used the wrong torque converter, it hits on stuff inside the bellhousing. Thankfully I stopped by the old man's house when I first got this car and got the original torque converter. I could put it all back together today but when the old guy dropped the trans out he ripped the wires to the front three sensors on the transmission off right at the plugs. So a quick trip to the junkyard and this rig will be patrolling and hating. |

Put the trans back in with the original torque converter and I am still having an issue with something inside the bellhousing hitting. Are the 2.4l 4g64s in the Summits 6 bolt or 7 bolt engines? The engine currently in the van is a 7 bolt 4g64 out of a '95(I think) Galant. At this point I am not sure if the flexplate is incorrect or if the block itself is different from what was originally in the van. I am going to drop the trans again and investigate as to what may be hitting. Thankfully I only bolted the trans to the engine and put the trans mount on... |

Eff me. Looked up the flexplate part numbers in CAPS and the Galant with the 4g64 and the Summit with the 4g64 both use the same flexplate. Just gonna have to take the trans off and look for marks where something is hitting. |

The 92 models used the 8v 6 bolt 4G64, 93+ used the 16v 7 bolts. |

Thank you for confirming. Then the blocks should be the same and should not have anything hitting when the starter is engaged. Unfortunately it started to rain... Can't wait to get back out there and get this rig rolling... |

Thanks. I like it and wish it didn't have this ridiculous problem. But regardless, it is for sale: viewtopic.php?f=66&t=35773 |
